How many of the forum members get ready for a vacation of trip away from home by really cleaning the house. How many forum member straighten up the house before a cleaning service comes to clean?

I don''t clean the house before vaca because I have a cleaning lady so it stays in a pretty consistent state, but I do put things away before she comes or I may never find them again. (Believe me, I have learned this the hard way over the years... )

I do. It''s always nice to come home to a clean house.

I always clean before we leave for vacation. It is so nice coming home to a clean home. I wish I had a cleaning lady! Alas, I have to clean a bit everyday so that my cleaning job is easier.

not only do i clean before leaving, i have all the laundry done as well.

i cannot abide coming home after vacation to face housework. and i ''ll have enough laundry from the trip as it is.

mz

ps i truly appreciate the house/catsitter who vacuums before we arrive home!

Oh I do this. I have a pre-holiday routine for the house! I''m stringent about it, unless I''m in a real rush. The cupboards and fridge are emptied of any perishables. The bins are emptied and sprayed with disinfectant. Every drain in the house gets a dose of bleach poured into it. All laundry is done. Things are cleaned/tidied/hoovered etc.

I cannot abide coming home from a holiday to smells, mess or housework!

I HATE coming home from vacation or business travel to a messy house. However, most of the time all I can get my act together to do is wash the dirty dishes, clean the litter boxes and empty the fridge before we leave.

I really try to. Sometimes I run out of time but most of the time I manage to get the house clean before we go out of town.

I have never had the luxury of a cleaning service but if I did I''m sure
nothing really disgusting was left for them to do.

My niece used to clean houses when she was in school and she said most
of the time she was just "Cleaning the clean".

Actually I do clean before we go on vacation.
For one thing it''s almost like an extension of my vacation to
come home to a clean house where all I have to do is relax.

A less important but still valid fact is that I don''t want my
neighbor who feeds the cats and picks up the mail to think
we are total slobs.

MM, I''m totally the type who would feel the need to clean before the cleaning people came in. Our problem is clutter, so by the time we pick up (which you really have to do before having a service in) the clutter, the actual cleaning is almost fun.

I don't "clean" before my cleaning woman arrives but I make sure all extraneous crap is picked up and put away. Also, she's afraid of cats, so I make sure to do the litter {scoop and vaccum the area} before she gets here.

I also like to clean and straighten before a trip--it's oppressive to come home to a mess...

Well I don''t hire a service but yes, I always make sure my home is spotless when I leave for vacation. I hate coming home from a vacation and having to do something other than laundry.

This is perfect timing since we decided an hour ago that we are going to drive 6 hours to a vacation spot tonight. We were going to leave right after I got home from work but I want to clean first

I don''t have a cleaning service, but like most of the PP I do make sure the house is tidy before going away. Unlike the time my husband literally ripped the house apart looking for his Moroccan driving license before we went to visit his family! That was not pleasant!!!

Never again!!!! I am now in charge of all official documentation!

I practically sanitize the house before leaving for vacation.

We don''t clean before vacation or the cleaning gal, but we do straighten up. I hate coming home from vacation to a messy house and I want the cleaning gal to be able to do her job without having to work around all our junk.

We have a cleaning service and yes, I do pick up before they come.. I love coming home to a clean house when I have been away.

Deep clean.

When we get back we'll be exhausted, and the last thing we need is a messy or worse, dirty apt to deal with.

I clean everything, do all laundry, clean out fridge, and prepare the yard.

Nothing''s worse to end a vacation than spoiled milk, dirty socks and a yard that needs mowed.

Well I have to point out that "picking up" and "cleaning" are two mutually exclusive things and it is my experience that most cleaning people will not "pick up" nor do you really want them to as crews change and you have no idea who is putting your stuff where.

I have a live in here in china and I don''t pick up for her - she lives here and knows where things go and her job is more than just a couple hours a month or week.

On the other topic, I always think I want to have a clean house to come home to, but the reality is we leave in a whirlwind and arrive home and unpack and everything''s a mess. I do make sure the things like dishes are done - don''t want to come back to THAT after a week!

I don't go crazy, but I try to have things picked up and clutter put away, at least. It's nice to come home to a house that isn't a disaster, but I don't spend a lot of time dusting or cleaning bathrooms. I also do the dishes and laundry.

I wish I had a cleaning lady! I would definitely put away clutter, but I wouldn't do any other cleaning before she came.

I clean before vacation. I love coming home to a clean house - but also because a pet sitter is coming in 2x a day, so of course I want it clean for her...

We try to have the cleaning ladies come while we are on vacation. They only come every other week and she can''t adjust much because she is full. I LOVE coming home from vacation to a clean home. We have kids 7 and 10 so we vacation hard. Not much relaxing and when we come home I am often exhausted. Last thing I want to do is clean in addition to unpacking and laundry oh and usually returning to work the next day

I try to leave the house really clean before we leave - the cleaner and more complete, the better...I love coming home to a clean and neat house.

But I don''t always manage to.

okay... i just got home from vacation(family re-union)and deep cleaning the house before i left paid off.I only have a load of laundry to do and a dress shirt to iron for work tomorrow! The rest of the day is mine to play on price scope!

I really try to at least clean up all clutter, run the vaccuum, and be caught up on laundry. We didn''t have time to do that (or organize any of the piles of wedding crap) before our honeymoon and it made our return home so jarring and stressful.

It''s really worth it! Have fun today!

We''ve only used a cleaning service once, right before we left for our wedding and honeymoon. I was really opposed to the idea, but it was WELL worth the money to come home to a spotless house after our honeymoon.

I usually tidy up before we go on vacation. I hate coming home and seeing what I need to do around the house right away.

This is our problem too. I don''t mind a lived-in look but I hate a lot of clutter. We can''t seem to get rid of it though.
