Hi All,

My b/f and I are still searching for the "right" ring and I discovered this simple yet beautiful Tacori setting (http://www.tacori.com/engagement/40-15rd6.html). I'm not a big name brand person and this setting just happened to be Tacori. My question is if there are other settings that are similar (i.e., classic solitaire with a little detail on the band to add a "twist" to the look)? Even though the price for this ring is cheaper than many Tacori settings, it still seems fairly expensive for a fairly simple solitaire. Ideas?

Also, I want to incorporate sapphires somehow and am thinking of adding a wedding band with alternating diamonds and sapphires. I took a picture with a band with emeralds (no sapphires in stock at the time) and thought it was beautiful. However, I have had three people look at the photo and say that the wedding band does not match the engagement ring. I can't seem to understand why though because a) it appears to match to me and b) I was under the impression that the benefit of the solitaire is that it goes with pretty much anything. It would bother me if the rings really don't match, so I was interested in getting some other opinions. Perhaps there is something I'm missing. Also, I should note that I plan to get a princess cut diamond and would end up getting a channel set band similar to this most likely so that the stones were the same shape as the center diamond. http://www.bluenile.com/sapphire-diamond-ring-14k-white-gold_21366?click_id=801121589

Thanks for any and all advice! This forum has been amazingly helpful and I appreciate all the posts I have received in the past.

P.S. I'm going to try and post a pic of the e-ring w/ wedding band but it was not uploading at the time.

Finally, it worked!

OMG! Thank you for posting the James Allen setting. That is very similar and SO MUCH CHEAPER!!!

I agree with your friends that the band you're looking at would not be a great match for that e-ring design, mainly because the e-ring has a rounded contour while the band has square-off edges. I think beading on the band would be a nice touch too - some people would consider that too "matchy," but personally I don't have a problem with matchy in moderation. ;)) I think a contoured band with beading would be a lovely complement to the e-ring, but the stones would likely be far smaller than those in your example. If you want the larger stones, a simple shared-prong setting might be nice.

Okay, I can kind of see what you are saying. I've never had a good eye for these kind of things, so I definitely trust the opinion of others when it comes to trying to match bands. So, would something like this match better? http://www.tacori.com/catalog/product/view/id/8376/s/45-15et/category/3/ I know most places will put gemstones in a setting if you ask, so I just need to find the right band. I would probably search elsewhere though for another off brand setting like the one umbrella found for the e-ring (thanks again!!!).

You are very welcome, it makes me happy to help! :)

The Tacori wedding band you linked looks gorgeous. The milgrain adds a perfect touch, which matches well with the James Allen Solitaire. I'm sure you could find a similar wedding band that is cheaper than the Tacori.

If you end up going with the James Allen e-ring, you might ask the JA rep what they'd suggest for a complementary eternity band. Ideally, you'd want to get something that's similar in height to the e-ring. And actually, a ring with straight sides, like the one you originally posted( but maybe just a bit narrower), might look good with that e-ring!

There are probably many casting companies that make shanks that are a bit "different" or ornamented or textured some way. I just don't know where to tell you to look. If you have a really good bench jeweler at a local store, you could work with the local store to design what you want. Or, David Klass in Los Angeles could definitely make you a matching set to your specifications. He has a Facebook. Google David Klass rings and look at images. You don't have to buy something off the rack. Unique and attractive rings can be fabricated from findings, by casting, or forging.
