My guys are 9 and 11.
Generally speaking l, the movies they’re attracted to are overly sensational, effect laden, needlessly violent.
I actually got them to watch “Some like it Hot”. You have no idea of the protests regarding the fact it was in black and white.....
Any suggestions welcome!!

Well, these may not qualify as classic if you're talking B&W classic, but they're classic to me :D. They're appropriate for your kids' ages, and my kids enjoyed watching (most) of them with DH and me.

The Princess Bride
Big
My Girl
Circle of Friends
Fried Green Tomatoes
Back To The Future
Indiana Jones
Titanic

Definitely Back to the Future!!

It is so hard to find good movies.

To Kill A Mocking Bird
E.T.

DK :))

Sound of Music
The King and I
Singing in the Rain

DK :))

If you can find it:

Hold that Ghost! with Abbott and Costello, I loved that movie when I was young.

The Crawling Eye, great flick

Any Potter movie, seriously they are all worthwhile.

they might like: Cinderella

goonies
ET
Poltergeist (My kids at your kids ages loved scary stuff (both boys))
Alice in Wonderland (the good one by Burton)
A nightmare b4 Christmas (again Burton)

Would they like The Three Stooges? Mr Bean?
The Addams family. The Munsters?

I was going to say Goonies as well :D

But 'To Kill A Mockingbird'? That doesn't even appeal to me as a relatively cultured grown adult :P lol

(Should really watch it before judging!!)

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (more a classic from my kids era but a fantastic movie none-the-less)
Oh yes, Goonies and ET!

It's A Wonderful Life is one of my all-time favorites, although I do associate it with Christmas

The Parent Trap

Neverending Story.

The Black Cauldron is a film that Disney made and never talk about because it's quite dark - IIRC it is basically The Lord Of The Rings' storyline, but kids like things they aren't supposed to watch, lol.

Home (Jim Parsons is excellent as one of the lead characters)
Star Wars (obviously!!)
Star Trek (the recent ones)
Any of the Clarkson et al Top Gear specials? (Some swearing but some cool adventures)
Astroboy
Robots

How about the 1963 screwball comedy “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”? It is hilarious. YouTube trailer below.

The books are amazing!!!!

The books are amazing!!!!

I recall starting to read The Hobbit when I must have been about 10, but it was very hard going!

I would like to read them but, as with many books, finding the time to do so is difficult!

Not the Lord of the Rings! I couldn't get into those either lol. I meant the Black Cauldron. It's a very cute series and more appropriate for little ones with shorter attention spans. And for people like me, apparently lol

Another vote for Back to the Future!!!!!

Mine liked Jurassic Park

National Velvet (Elizabeth Taylor)
Old Yeller
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)
The Karate Kid (Ralph Macchio)
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
The Pacifier (Vin Diesel)
Disney's The Kid (Bruce Willis)
Seabiscuit (Tobey Maguire)

Wow! Amazing suggestions.
As it turns out, “It’s A mad mad mad world was the first. I’ve I ever saw in a theater.....so that’s this evenings fare.....

Babe. My favorite! "That'll do, Pig."

Stand by Me
The Sandlot

Oh, and DD(15) recently watched Goodfellas. She thought we should have let her see it when she was about 8 because “it’s the best anti-drug movie ever”. LOL
