I am actually busy studying for my first GIA exam.

What I was wondering is, is the clarity symbols and abbreviations on reports from different labs all the same or is the symbols on a HRD different then a GIA''s report.

Thank you!

Although I''ve never really checked to see, my impression is that the symbols used by the different labs are similar but not identical.

(are) the symbols on a HRD different then a GIA's report.
For HRD, check THIS out.

Most labs advertise their "products" and explain the grading scales on the Net. Perhaps some get creative, but GIA, IDC (that's what HRD uses), CIBJO grades are usually there. Actully, I don't think I know of any exception (at least for the grades' names regardless of what each lab decides to assign to each), leaving aside cut grading.

Aside this, there is a Scandinavian nomenclature "Scan - DN" applied in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

The UK has it's own traditional diamond name-calling...

There is an official correspondence between these grades. (cited HERE)

Is this what the Q was about ?

I already have a list of GIA''s plot symbols, so this really helps.
Thank You Valeria!
