Clarity Question

I had my diamond app. I got It a a steal

l ( my best friend owns his own diamond store)

however just had it app. for insurence reasons. When I bought it my friend said it was a VS however when it apprasied it apprasied at SI1. At the appraisal the was just a small feather on th side of the diamond at 20x no carbon flaws or cut flaws. The rest of the diamond app at what i thought it would F colour no flor. Do app. vary from one to another? I am still vary happy with the stone though.

Did your friend say it was "VS" in general, or specifically VS1 or VS2? It is normal and within the scope of FTC guidelines for two different appraisers to be one grade off (VS2 vs. SI1). However, if your friend said it was VS1, then you could send it to the GIA or another reputable lab for a more iron-clad grading.

I''d probably just keep it though. It looks lovely, SI1 clarity is still eye-clean, and you got a steal. Congratulations!

Oh yes it was a steal, as a wedding gift I only had to pay $500 for it, my friend buys estate jewrley and this diamond came from a much bigger pendant. The pendant had a 6ct pear cut center and .67 to.77 rb''s and princess around the pear. I wish I had got a picture of it.

If the stone did not have a certificate, the VS clarity grade was probably the jeweler''s opinion. And like phoneixgirl said, for a stone to appraise one grade off of what you were told is not that unacceptable.

As for paying $500 for this ring, holy moly! Can I meet your friend? I think we could become great buddies!

I thought grading was done at 10x. This might, (and I do mean might) be the reason for the discrepancy. I was not at the appraisal, so I do not know if he found the inclusion at 20x and then brought it down to 10x to see if he could still see it or not. (sometimes done) It is eyeclean, and at $500, more than worth it. Congrats on a great buy and a really nice friend.

Also Im thinking about switching my diamond from the tiffany setting is in now and mounting it in a Vatche Xprong setting. However I like the safty of six prong but the look of four. Can people list the pros and cons of this mount?

That what I had thought that grading was done at 10x but this person looked at it 20x then graded it.

Oh well I love it anyway. I have 1 1/2 eg rings and this is my first, I just got my 2nd diamond a 2ct princess and Im tring to figure out a mount for it. I was thinking about Tacori or an antique style. However I am about to switch jobs from real estate and morgages to become a cop. Boy I am going to miss the money but hate to be in an office all day cooped up!!!!

and I dont think that such a danty mount will hold up. Oh well here is my princess yeah

Oh this one didnt come as cheap as the first I ended up buying it form Blue Nile and I love it!!!!!
