So while waiting for my ring to be put together I have been looking at the show me the bling under a carat thread and notice that the majority of rings are in the upper scale of colorless and maybe a tad lower in terms of clarity.
I had a H VS2 that i have traded for the diamond below.

The previous diamond

The crystal on the H vs2 was quite apparent once I saw it so I traded it in for a better clarity and a step lower in color. Did I do that the correct way ? Or should I have looked for another diamond with the same color grade or higher but had the blemish in such a place that it wasn't so noticeable ? Granted the crystal in the original diamond was only noticeable under a loupe. Im nervous that I went the wrong way in my choice. The original was beautiful in person and I know my GF would have loved it but I want to give her the best ring for in this price point and felt I didn't totally love it once I focused on the crystal....I guess the correct wording for me is mind clean to go with eye clean.

Thanks for listening to me ramble and for any advice :)

I think you did well. If you want mind clean you really need to stick to VS1 or better clarity. I doubt you'll see much difference between a H and an I unless you compare them side by side.

My feeling is that just because one VS2 wasn't eyeclean for me, doesn't mean another wouldn't be. But I'm me and your you... and this sounds like it might be the right decision for you.

If you want loupe clean you need VS1. But why do you want loupe clean anyways?

If it makes you happy, it was the right choice. There are people on this forum who prefer higher clarity and lower color, and people who prefer lower clarity and higher color. It is what YOU are comfortable with, and if you are more comfortable with your new stone, then that's the one for you!

I agree, it's really about what YOU prefer. I myself would be happy with a VS2 if I couldn't see the inclusion AT ALL with my eye, however it wouldn't bother me to see it under the loupe. My husband however has a different point of view and prefers not to buy a stone that was under VVS2. I would prefer to pay more for what my eye can see rather than what it can't, the color for instance. It sounds like this was a good decision for YOU and thats whats important. If the H was plenty white for you in the original stone then an I will probably be just fine for you. Cant wait to see pics!

This is your preference- have you seen different colors in person??

agreed- you coul keep searching for an eyeclean to you VS2 or go to VS1 for your sanity

Thanks for the input everyone. I haven't seen this ring yet with the new stone but I have looked at some I and H color stones at Fred Meyer (which is the only place here locally to look) to see if I can tell any difference, which I couldn't tell. I just want to give her something that I'm proud of.... and just like I knew she was the one, when I get the right diamond I'll know. I think Im on the right track. I don't know jack about diamonds and until I found this site I really didn't know jack. Thanks again.

My understanding is that with both VS1/2 and H/I the differences are pretty slight. You're safely within the "PS-approved" range for both specs on both stones, so the only question is what looks good to you.

They have a commercial where I live for diamonds where the guy says he likes to give someone 15 diamonds all the same carat but different colors, clairities, and different certificates....he believes a diamond will speak to you.
If you didnt love it when you saw it, its not speaking to you. Different people are sensitive to different aspects of diamonds, color doesnt bother me as much as clarity, as I am the girl who once I know where the flaw is in it, thats all I see. If Im not drawn to it right away, I keep thinking of what I can make it instead of appreciating it for what it is.

Hope the new diamond works better for you and speaks to you!!
