Hello,
I''m new to this forum but have been reading a lot of the posts and thought I could get some expert advice. I purchased a big (over 2ct) diamond from someone off Craigslist for 6k. I thought it was a good deal at the time because of the size of the diamond and the brightness. After bringing it to my local jewelry to set on my setting, they informed me that the diamond has been enhanced and that there is a crack from one end to the other. They also said its a light brown color but when I''m outside, its pretty white. In some angles, it looks light yellow. There is also an inclusion towards the table/surface that''s visible if you look at the diamond closely. Is there anyway I could make the inclusions less visible and fix the crack? If not, how can I sell it back and what grade/color would it be? I tried contacting Yehuda but they won''t do it for me. I feel like I foolishly bought the diamond for the size and didn''t do enough research and now I''m stuck with a horrible diamond. Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, I'm sorry that your purchase hasn't turned out to be what you expected. Now for some practicalities.

Was the treatment disclosed in the original advert? I'm guessing not. Did you pay by credit card? Could you get it refunded? Can you return the diamond (if that's what you want to do)?

If none of the above is possible - just another thought. You sound like you loved the diamond when you got it. Is it just the comments from the jeweller that has made you fall out of love? If you didn't know about its problems would you still love it?

Last point - only consider keeping this diamond IF the integrity of the stone hasn't been compromised by the crack/inclusion. Could the crack actually be a laser line from the enhancement? If the diamond has been compromised, then I would do everything possible to get my money back.

I actually paid cash for it so I can''t get my money back. I purchased the diamond over 1 month ago and just noticed the crack on the table today so I''m really bothered by it. I''m not sure if its due to the clarity enhancement that was previously done. I don''t know if I could send it somewhere to fix/laser drill or have retreated. I feel like I''m stuck with a cracked diamond...

Sorry you had this experience of buying without researching.
Live and learn.

As to the color, I'd bring it to an independent appraiser since I think GIA will not grade a clarity-enhanced stone.

Perhaps it could be separated at the crack and you could get two diamonds polished out of it for earrings.
Perhaps the CE inclusions could be polished away.
Also smaller diamonds show less color.

I think your best approach is to stay away from jewellers and settings until you have gotten to an Independent appraiser - that way you can find out the true extent of the situation.

Ditto. Sorry to hear about this, an appraiser is your best bet in the first instance.

Yehuda won’t work directly with a consumer but they’ll take work from most dealers. Talk to the jeweler you had do the appraisal about it. If you're not 100% confident in the skills of this appraiser I second the suggestion of hiring a pro to help. Details are important. That said, you say that it’s already treated. To the extent that the treatment will make the inclusion(s) less visible, this has already been done. Treating it again isn’t likely to help. Similarly, the treatment has no affect on color so it’s not going to help you there either.

How can you sell it back? Apparently you’ve already asked the seller about getting a refund and the answer was that you can’t. You can always put it on Craigslist yourself and try to find another buyer who will make the same mistake you did but basically it’s yours now.
