I did buy a "No soliciting" sticky thing to put at my doorbell and I haven't had once since.

Yeah, we were only here 2 months when I got one of those and put it VERY prominently RIGHT on the Front Door. I still get the occasional: "I did the see sign, but...." and that's right when I close the door in their faces.

When I was a kid, my mother dealt with solicitors very effectively. We had a gated entryway with a large window behind the gate, and she would pull back the curtains whenever the bell rang. If she didn’t know the person at the door, she’d let the curtains fall back in place, and tell us kids loudly and angrily in Chinese to ignore the doorbell.

They all gave up.
