I recently purchased an e-ring and wanted to insure it using Chubb and David Stone as the agent as he is highly regarded on here. I emailed him and he said Chubb discontinued their e-ring program unless Chubb also insures the home as well. Is this true? When did this happen?

I''ve got $1 that says this is wrong...just based on the pattern of people saying what they want to in the insurance business.

David Stone had been mentioned here a lot. I called him 2 years ago or so, to check on his involvement...and he indicated his own business was just phasing it out.

More recently, Bill Castro from Total Dollar has been mentioned as covering the county, and more recently than that, it''s reported he has maybe a $10 K threshold.

I''m betting it''s available, but just not easy.

One dollar says so.

I have a Chubb policy for my watches, to which I added the loose diamond I have ready to be made into an engagement ring. From my understanding, there is a threshold above which the total value of your luxury items must exceed before Chubb will insure them. I forget if it''s $20k or $30k. But they won''t individually insure a ring that''s under that amount.

Rockdoc and I recently had a discussion about this topic. Perhaps he can update us as there appears to be some confusion.

I received a call a few months ago from a regional manager of a large agency who represents Chubb saying that the stand alone

engagement ring policy was being discontinued.

Roc Doc had a webinar a couple months back, where he invited Ralph Cohen of Touchstone Insurance in IL to talk about insuring erings. I ended up going through Ralph for my coverage. My local Chubb agents also told me that they didn''t cover anything below $25K, however, I dont remember Touchstone ever asking me about that. You can contact them via their site: www.toucstoneinsurance.com. Let us know what they tell you!

I just got off the phone with a local agent. She represents that she'd do it, but has a $15K threshold. I asked if this represented a change in their policy. She was kind enough to explain that I might get a different agent to do if for a lower amount, but theirs was a high net worth office, and that was a minimum she personally has adopted for some time.

I don't know...my $1 is feeling pretty secure.

Jeff, maybe you can call him back. Why would he have proactively called you about this, if it were not true. And, why would others say they can do it, if they can't.

I was looking into the Chubb policy through Touchstone a couple of weeks ago. With them to have a Chubb policy, your ring has to be valued at $10,000 or more. That''s what I was told anyway....

I talked to Ralph today Neil, Thanks. Btw he might be giving you a thank you call for the referral.

I talked to Ralph at Touchstone today and he was super nice and set me up with a stand alone ring policy. I think he did mention the 10,000 minimum...

Glad this worked out for you. I''m not certain, but it sounds like Chubb may be discontinuing the stand-alone policies through their own agents and concentrating that business through programs, like Touchstone. That is not unusual for insurance companies to do with "specialty" lines of business. It allows them to keep the exposure and underwriting separate and specialized.

In any case, thank goodness for Touchstone! I just got my ring insured with them too.
