Please be brutally honest. This is a 1.7 ct. Vanadium Chrysoberyl I picked up from AJS. It has a window that I am not sure will close up with setting. It is alot more sparkly then pics.

First pic is in my house under flourescent light with some daylight. It is a green/yellow mix with some pink/organge flashes.

Outside in sunlight it is mix of green and blue.

In my bedroom, half under a little table lamp with a GE bulb. The pics look more blue, I see a mix of purply/greenish/pink.

What are your thoughts? I like it, but not sure if I really like it. I was hoping for more of the outside picture color. Should I send it back and maybe save up for one like Gemtrader has?

Thanks!

Im not really allowed to say much, but if there's enough depth for a recut, I'd send it to Dan Stair or Jerry Newman.

Hmmm, it doesn't show the pretty blue/green/yellow that attracted me to the vanadium. I saw a pretty one on multicolour but it looked like it had a window (and it's gone now anyway).

It doesn't sound as if you see the color you like as much. Personally, I'd return it. I don't have a large collection but already can see that I have a stone or two that I should have returned. Good luck!

So I was so ready to say a big "Yes!" before I even opened up the thread because I adore chrysos. And vanadium chrysos? In a completely different league. But that said, I have mixed feelings. [disclosure: this is coming from someone who can't stand windows; its like my eye gets sucked into the vortex of the hole and I can't climb out  ]

I love the color change. I very much like the yellow colorway. I love the size. But I really dislike that you went all the way to AJS to get the stone and it has a window. If it were from Tan, okay, cuz his prices are often very good. Also, I guess I personally wouldn't mind taking the risk of having a stone recut if it were an inexpensive ebay stone, but I wouldn't want to pay decent money and then more money to have it recut if I could help it.

I know there is a strong interest in Vanadium Chrysos partly because of recent threads, but can you wait until other stones come along or are you set on getting it now?

Hi,

I would pass on it. I don't find it attractive and the window is too large. Don't buy stones to re-cut, unless you get them for a pittance of their value.

Hah! Succinctly put! I've gotta learn brevity.

Such a pity. I had wanted a V chrysoberyl for soooo long, ever since I lost my Alexandrite. I really loved the minty blue/green of that stone. As an alexandrite it was not top quality- lighty minty blue green changing to a light purple. The cool daylight color was really beautiful and I hoped to see that color in this stone. The yellow of this stone kind of turns me off, because although I like yellow chrysoberyls, this was not what I was after.

Thanks for the help!!!!!! It is going back.

I'm sorry - I intensely dislike when I have to send things back. I think you're making the right choice and I think the "right one" is out there waiting for you.

It was an interesting mix of pretty and not so pretty to me.

I couldn't have dealt with the window either.

I wonder if that is a very weak alex with vanadium given that it showed some pink/orange flashes in incandescent...? It is an interesting little stone.

I think saving up for the stone of your dreams instead of settling on one you are iffy about is usually a good call (unless you dream of the Hope Diamond... cause that's a lot of saving.)

I think the stone is pretty but given the window and depending on the price, it is an iffy one. There is no point in keeping something you are unsure about and I hope you'll find the right one soon.
