I listed to Padora and put in whichever Chirstmas song I am interested in hearing along with the artist) and they create a station around that song - I love it!

While in a mall on Black Friday (in a young people's store, Aéropostale,) I heard a new version of this song. Can anyone give me the particulars and/or a link to a newly released version of, "Mamacita, Donde Esta Santa Claus? /Where Is Santa Claus?". It was popular when I was a child! I found several cute versions of it on YouTube. Straight No Chaser does it. I am posting a link to their version, which I like, but which wasn't the version I heard in the mall. Theirs is a group version. I heard what sounded like an (adult) male solo performance.

Last night I listened to the songs for which the links appear above. (Thank you for those, mrs. taylor!) I, also, was blown away by the "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/ We Three Kings" combination done by Barenaked ladies and Sarah McLachlan on the "Barenaked for the Holidays" CD! It led me to listening to more music on iTunes and Amazon.com and I wound up purchasing that CD; one new one by a child singer, Jackie Evancho, called, "O Holy Night" (which, unfortunately, has only four songs on it); and a fabulous CD called "Putumayo Celtic Christmas". I really, really recommend their, "Auld Lang Syne"! All the songs ( save one, which is French in origin) originate in the British aisles. They are really lovely and played with traditional instruments!

Right now I'm listening to old Christmas standards sung by Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, and Julie Andrews. Every one of Julie Andrews' interpretations is just exquisite! I especially like her singing of "What Child is This (Greensleeves)" but unfortunately I wasn't able to find it on Youtube.

Joan Baez's "Noel" album is still one of my favorite Holiday offerings. I like it so much that I haven't yet played it this year... I'm saving it for later!

Oh, and for me it wouldn't be Christmas without the Hampton String Quartet's "classical" renditions of modern Christmas songs! They interpret modern favorites as some of the old masters might have done. I remember it was a bit jarring the first time I heard it, but now it's part of Christmas to me, even though I must admit that I don't know my classical music well enough to identify most of the masters honored on this CD.

I'm also listening to Kiri te Kanawa... and the Cambridge singers...

Dragonfly--thank you for the Hanson link. I absolutely LOVE their medley and played it a lot last year {and I am old enuff o be their old aunt}.

I played my CD by The Rankin Sisters while driving from Connecticut to Virginia yesterday. I was reminded of how beautifully the Rankin Family sings, "Ave Maria", too! I was in tears!

Thank you so much for posting those luscious Duke Ellington links, coati! I had never heard them! They are priceless! I have to admit that I know nothing about jazz and never listen to it, but I gained a lot of appreciation for some of the instruments used in it when my kid decided to branch out and play in band as well as in orchestra when she was younger! Since she played the clarinet and the saxophone for a little while, I attended enough band and jazz band concerts to get to appreciate the music. These pieces (the Christmas ones by Duke Ellington) were so great that I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the CD for my (extensive, I admit) Christmas music collection! Most of my Christmas music is pretty "high church", although I have some country and Trans-Siberian Orchestra stuff in it. Duke Ellington will give it more depth!

This is new to me. I first encountered it on a CD by The Rankin Family, and I really liked the way they sang it. YouTube has some other, beautiful renditions of it, though. This, sung by the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, is one. Another is a solo by a male singer, Lee Farrar Bailey.
