We only have about a month and a half left until Christmas! My parents have asked what DH and I would like for our first married Christmas and we don''t have a ton of ideas because we live in an apartment and don''t have much space. They don''t like giving money or gift cards so those probably aren''t an option.

What are you hoping to recieve for Christmas?

Things we wanted as newlyweds (many many moons ago!): Do these spark any ideas?

recliner
electric skillet
kitchen tv
new bed in a bag
Lamps for the livingroom.
Oil painting with light for over the couch
hallway runner
desk for kitchen
expresso maker
fondue maker
Bose radio

Alot of those things we either have or don''t have room for. We would like another chair for the living room but that''s probably out of budget unless they just gave us a giftcard for part of it... and I don''t know if they''d go for the giftcard thing.
Lamps are a good idea too but we are actually getting my parents lamps and it seems silly to give each other the same thing... its a possiblity though.

I asked my DH for a purse...which he confirmed this evening I will be getting, because I threatened to buy it for myself if he didn't get it for me.

My Mom usually buys me a purse, too.

Last year my parents bought my DH a plasma tv

This year my parents are buying my husband and I a week in Las Vegas for our couples gift, I do believe

And I have no idea what else...

So, you could ask for a vacation...or TV...or purse...fun things that you might not buy yourself.

Ok, hmmm, let''s see...
Tickets to a nice show?

We got a grill for our first Christmas.

Here was our Xmas list from last year:

XM radio for DH's car (he drives a lot for work)
Sports Illustrated
Us Weekly
Speakers for living room TV
Wireless receivers for said speakers
Massage gift cards
iTunes gift cards
Fiestaware serving pieces
2 more sets of silverware (we got 8 for our wedding..I'm asking for 2 more again this year)
I had a bunch of coach stuff on my list
DH asked for sweaters...he got something like 8 or 9, so no sweaters this year :)
Tools? I think last year might have been the screwdriver Xmas...or it was the drill Xmas. Not sure which - the drill was surprisingly handy when we moved out of our apartment/into the new house.
DVDs - we don't get cable, so we miss out on the good stuff on HBO etc. My MIL gave us Arrested Development, Dexter, and Entourage
My in-laws gave me a Wusthof santoku knife...I was really confused because we'd just gotten a set of new knives (from DH's parents the year before) as newlyweds, but that Wusthof is simply amazing and honestly one of my favorite gifts from last year. I'm asking for a paring knife this year.

Here's our list this year:
Small china hutch
Shop vac
I think I'm going to ask for a couple of Fiesta place settings in red (I have green, so I can do a holiday thing)
Lowes gift cards
Cooking gadgets: baster, turkey lifters, whipped cream dispenser, le creuset french oven, 2nd bowl for the kitchenaid
Couple more fiestaware pieces (bread tray...I served bread so many times this year and didn't have the proper dish, fruit cups, pedestal bowl)
2 more silverware sets
XM subscription/renewal
Magazine renewals
Massage gift cert. (can never have enough)
Restaurant gift certs
Computer speakers

Other ideas for you:
Newspaper subscription - my favorite morning ritual is reading the paper with DH
Paper shredder (DH broke mine...but I got one as a Xmas gift a couple years ago and it's sooo helpful)
If you're a meat eater, steaks from Omaha Steak Company. One of DH's roomies in college was from Omaha and his parents would give him huge boxes for Xmas - they were super good
Silpat mats (MIL just gave me these as a housewarming gift...awesome for baking cookies and rolls)
Plane tix to see friends?

ETA: Threadjack - Justjulia, do you use the fondue maker? I want to add that to my list this year but every time I mention it, DH rolls his eyes and says there's no way we'll use it and that my cabinet of small appliances is a complete chaotic mess. I don't mind adding to the mess if it's for something we'll use and enjoy, though!

Are you near any places worth getting a membership to? We live right near the Chicago Botanic Gardens, so my mom got us this year''s membership, which was the best gift because we use it all the time.

What about a gift-of-the-month club if you don''t need any specific "things"? Pizza? Cookies? Wine?

Do you collect anything special? My loved ones will never run out of gift ideas for me because of what I collect (and they don''t take up much space!)

Hubby and I often gift days to each other--a night at the theatre, a football game, etc.

Silly idea, but if you''re looking for suggestions for a practical gift and don''t have a ton of room, a really nice toaster oven is awesome!
It''s made cooking super easy; mine has an oven setting, so I can cook meals for two in it without heating up the whole apartment or wasting energy on a whole stove :-D
I''ve made everything in it from pizza, fish and chicken to pastries, and clean up is super simple :)
Just a thought... ;)

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Italia- I have a pretty new LV but I''ve been itching for a Kate Spade so I''ll maybe suggest that as a personal gift idea.

Elmorton- The steak idea is good! I know my mom loves QVC and they have lots of things like that so I may suggest that to them. Its always nice to get free groceries!

Just Julia- I''ll see if anything fun is coming up for tickets... DH and I do like ballets!

Something Shiny- We would LOVE a nice grill but can''t have them at the apartment. For now our George Foreman will have to do

Elmorton- I really like the magazine subscription idea... I''ve really been into the "REAL SIMPLE" one lately (I think thats the name). DH might like some sort of business mag or newspaper.

Haven- What is it that you collect? I''ll look for some fun monthly gifts... any website suggestions for that?

anangel- I''ve never owned a toaster oven and don''t think I''d know what to do with it! We really don''t have room on the counter or in the cabinet though anyway

Oooh...What purse?

FI is buying me my first LV *Claps* and i''m also hoping for the Bvlgari B Zero ring from my Dad.. but I think i''m dreaming there

My christmas list consists of lots of gift vouchers- massages, personal training sessions, some pandora beads and as above ^ ^ ^

what about:
*** fire safe***!
a memory foam mattress cover
a slow cooker
electric stand mixer
luxury sheet set
bakers rack
air purifier

Oobie, I got my mom, MIL, SMIL, and a friend Real Simple last year (it was a buy one-get one gift subscription), but I don't think I'm renewing it. I got really bored with Real Simple by summer. But, I do like the meal ideas and shopping list in the back, and I like the section where they test out products. I actually used their advice with self-tanners. :) The problem with RS is that there isn't a whole lot of content. One month, there will be some really interesting, insightful articles, and the next there's nada. Still, doesn't hurt to try it for a year. :)

ETA: If you want a great selection with reader reviews of magazines, go to Amazon.com - I like reading what people have to say there, plus it's a good way to see what else is out there.

Same thing I always want for Christmas...diamond earrings. (Which once again, I know I wont get)
15.gif

I thought about starting a Dreamgirl's Dream Diamond Earrings Fund. I will be accepting check, cash, or money orders in any amount given.....
Either that or looks like I will have to get them for myself eventually.

FF is such a putz and wont get them for me. lol
29.gif
I am always willing to accept an engagement ring as well....

Other than that, I want a Coach wristlet to use for work when I go to meetings so I don't have to lug around one of my many Coach handbags. (I always need to bring contact stuff with me and chapstick along with my cell phone)

I actually don't know what else. I usually know what I want but this year, that is all I can think of at the moment. Hmmmmmm...Looks like I better start thinking!!!

I usually get a lot of very nice things from FF and my parents for Christmas. They seem to think I always mention how I want this or that. But I don't recall ever doing that. hehe

You guys have some really good ideas!

While a fire safe would be nice, I''m not sure where we would put it. I do need to clean out my closet so maybe I can find one to fit in the corner.

Elmorton- Thanks for the heads up on the mag. reviews. I''ll check them out. I also love Martha Stewart but there are always sooo many ads!

Dreamgirl- I got some diamond studs for Christmas this year! Can''t wear them until Dec. 25 though lol. I think I''ll start a new thread on them soon because they are really beautiful

Last year we got an espresso machine and a handheld vacuum cleaner. I love our little dust buster! It''s perfect to cleaning up litter that the cat manages to get everywhere.

We''ve always had everything we need too so I''m not much help. Weekend get-away? Plants. Nice bottle of wine and a dessert. Throw pillows for the couch. Magazine subscription. New set of sheets or towels.
