Christmas Eve?

While I love your hugs, Gypsy, I have to admit that John's are more welcome as I haven't heard about him for years. :appl: :wavey:

He was very concerned when I told him about your health. He is very fond of you.

He's doing well. Turning 40 in February. His job is stable, thank goodness. Wanting to move back east to be closer to his family, which I support. We've both had a rough year since last November but I think we might be coming out of it stronger for it, which is the best outcome. His spinal fushions healed well, and he has a much better quality of life now. But the arthritis in his spine is degenerative so... it's likely he'll continue to have some issues. Don't know what else to tell you. Just that we are both sending you our support and best wishes for your health.

I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this rude obnoxious man on top of your health worries. I would love to come and sort him out on your behalf.

If I was you I would have booked a lovely relaxing cruise over the holidays. Life is too short to put up with such a pain in the rear.

The ironic part of this whole fiasco was that their whole family was planning a trip south for the Christmas season! That idea was just recently cancelled because the FIL's granddaughters wanted to spend a traditional Christmas close to home  Kinda pulls at
your heartstrings, doesn't it?

I should point out that SIL's sisters and their husbands are very wealthy. They could go anywhere they wanted tomorrow. Bye :wavey:

I have an aunt like this. She always insults you, but somehow she thinks she's just making conversation; "Are you enjoying your new boobs?" to DD. "You looked so bad that day" to me. Stuff like that.

We used to dread her coming over.

But then I invented the $5 Game. :appl: At the end of her visits, we all tally up her insults (after she's left), and whoever got the worst one gets $5. Sometimes I have to hand out $10. :|

We now look forward to her visits, and laugh behind her back. She just keeps on, like a steamroller. . .

Or you can try the direct approach; look at the offensive party, and say very quietly "That was rude", and walk away.

Couple of those and he'll get the message.

Isaku, I am so sorry you're having to deal with this ... and during a health crisis to boot, ugh.

I have two approaches when it comes to people like this.

Approach 1: feign ignorance. And, seriously, keep it going for longer than is even vaguely seemly.

"Get up, you lazy Canadians!"

"... I'm not following you."

"You're supposed to get up to greet family!"

"Nope, not getting it. Could you explain?"

"Expletive expletive expletive!"

"So ... it's all about respect for family, is what you're saying?"

And once it is painfully obvious, shrug, look concerned, and walk away (or just keep doing what you are doing, if you are comfortable).

Approach two:

Respond to absolutely anything that seems even vaguely insulting or inappropriate - and I mean from outright bad manners to passive-aggressive behavior with one physical and one verbal action.

The physical: the biggest shit-eating grin you can muster.

The verbal: a very cheerfully rendered, "Go **** yourself!"

Spice with hand-gestures as needed.

I have only dealt with moderately insane companions and relatives, but for the most part, when they start off as rude as that, these techniques work better than heart-to-hearts or any other form of taking them seriously ....
