So girls, Christmas is approaching and I''m starting to search for the perfect decorations for this year. It''s our (FI and I) first Christmas in our first home together, so I''m really looking forward to making it a special event in our home...with the table centerpieces, the chandelier with garland....the whole nine yards!

Any suggestions on where to search (online or not) for the perfect decorations???

Do any of you do anything special each year with Christmas decor? Any knock-out suggestions to spread the holiday cheer???

Go to Hobby Lobby! Every few weeks their Christmas stuff is 50% off!

My favorite places for decorations: Pier One, World Market, Target, Linen n Things and occasionally Pottery Barn. Usually every year, I add a few new items to my decor, but I don''t have any sort of theme, but try and use deep garnet reds as it adds a richly-hued house & matches nicely with my furniture. I love snow globes for the holidays and even bought a few Halloween ones! lol I only have five or six Christmas ones so they add a fun silly touch without being tacky. Usually Bath & Body shop has cute ones and along with have cute pump hand soaps and stuff that I add to the bathrooms w/holiday towels.

Oh, and candles are a big deal this year. My kids are finally getting old enough that I can light tea lights around the room w/out worrying about them being knocked over.

(I''m so wanting to decorate now, but Christmas is what, 2 months away? lol I put out Halloween stuff in Sept. Life''s short. Gotta enjoy the decorations while we can

for me Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Pier 1, Cost Plus World Imports and Restoration Hardware are my staples for most of my holiday decor.

sometimes I get items at Michaels to fill in here and there. and Ikea for candles and things like that. i tend to buy only a few things at the holiday time and then I buy a ton of things after xmas at the sales for the next year.

Ditto! They have so many cool things. I like Target too and Costco for some things. Anyone buy from Oriental Trading? Is the quality good or bad?

I am jealous of the people w/Ikea's and Restoration Hardware.

Online isn't the same as in person.

I miss Hobby Lobby!!! They don''t have ''em out here.

I know! Christmas is nearly 2 months away, but I can''t help but think of decorating!! My FI thinks I''m nuts for wanting to deck the halls already

I just want everything purchased by the time Thanksgiving rolls around. The day after Thanksgiving is the traditional "decorate the tree and house" day! Thanks for all the suggestions! I''ll definitely check those out!!

I look at the PB website and then go to Hobby Lobby and make the decorations myself. I work for Willimas-Sonoma Inc and it is still cheaper for me to make it myself, even with the discount!

Here is a link with articles on ideas and how to make them. Hope this sparks some ideas with you

I can''t decide if I''m going to make my own wreaths and garland or buy some from L.L. Bean. Sooner or later, I think I''m going to have to invest in a good quality set of wreaths, but last year I just got the balsam. I also decided I''m going to buy two artificial trees. I''ve got to really make it look good cause we''re going to be entertaining.

I also need stuff for the yard, I can just see the utility bill now. The neighbors are going to hate me.

And I need Mickey Mouse ornaments!

Target has great decorations that are set up by color and theme if you''re looking for fill-in type things for your trees, and they have a pretty good selection of other household items to coordinate for Christmas. I love Christopher Radko ornaments and garlands, they can get pricey so i would suggest picking one theme and building onto it year after year, a few pieces at a time...you can find those at better department stores or gift shops typically.

I have been collecting Christmas ornaments and decor since I was a child, now I have enough to decorate about 5 trees with different themes and I''m still adding every year! I do one tree with Radko tropical themed glass garlands and ornaments (I fill in with generic glass balls and other similar themed things), one with Wizard of Oz, one with sports related ornaments for DH, one with all red and green ornaments, and our main tree has all the Hallmark old-school ornaments my parents have passed down to me with lots of other personal ones I''ve been given or picked up over the years.

I''d love to start a "girlie" tree this year, that is my next goal. When I see the gorgeous blown-glass dresses and shoes and shopping bags all the department stores have to offer, I start thinking I need to make room for another tree somewhere so I can buy all of those and get another themed tree going! Neiman''s and Nordstrom have some really pretty ones this year...we''ll see if I can make room for some in my Christmas decor budget, hee hee.

In my family we (when I say we, I mean me cause no one was allowed to decorate the tree except me) did a new theme every year or two. Little brothers are gonna come stay with me for a while, and I kinda want it decorated for them.
