I have been lurking on this FANTASTIC site for some time, learned a great deal of information and my boyfriend and I are finally ready to take the plunge. I had originally thought I wanted a solitare style engagement ring, but after seeing the Danhov ME29 halo, I knew it was the one!! Unfortunately, due to the cost of this setting we now have a very limited budget of $3,300 for the diamond. I have been emailing with jamesallen.com and they are able to accomodate as small as a .7 carat diamond in the ME29. We would really appreciate your help in choosing a diamond that gives us the most "bang for my buck!" Of course, I would like to go as large as I can, but more importantly I want a well cut, gorgeous, bright, sparkly stone... Please help!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn''t even thought of looking outside of James Allen for the diamond, thanks for the tip.

One of the many diamonds I picked out as a possible choice was this one http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=1193791 what do you think of it? Based on what I''ve learned here so far, I think it''s a nice stone... but I still have a lot to learn. Are there some characteristics I was too conservative on? Others that I should be more conservative on, I''d love to hear your feedback!

Certainly a beautiful stone. You can easily relax the color and the clarity (as long as a diamond is eyeclean you are paying for things you can''t see with a "better" clarity). But simply going down a few color grades will bring down your cost significantly and you won''t notice a difference.
