Choosing Between Settings

I am VERY new at this, so forgive me if this is a silly question.

My boyfriend and I went ring shopping recently for the first time. I''m not someone who wears a lot of jewelry, so trying on all of those diamonds was a little overwhelming. I think we''ve decided on a 1 ct princess cut diamond. I am struggling with choosing a setting however - I waver between a basic 4 prong setting, and a cathedral setting.

If anyone has any advice on which setting you''d choose and why, I''d appreciate it. Given our choice of a 1 ct diamond, is there any practical reasons to choose one or the other?

just go with the one you love. one isn''t really a better choice than the other.

Ditto! But you might want to look through the top thread on the Show Me the Ring forum and see hundreds of pictures of engagement rings. Then you might start favoring one style over another.
