Hi there. I''m new here, and have spent the last few hours browsing the forum; its invaluable information! I plan to pop the question to my girlfriend in about six weeks. I''d like to get a three stone setting, with a center round stone and two smaller pear stones on either side, like this:

Do I research the side stones independant of the center stone? Or do the pear side stones come with the ring? If so, what are their "stats"?

oooohh...very nice!! will you be purchasing the ring from tiffany''s? here is a link to kaleigh''s beautemous tiff 3 stone

The picture from Tiffany''s is just an example. I''m not sure if I''ll get it; lets call it the dark horse candidate for now.

Vatche makes a very similar setting. (Look under 3-stone rings)

While I love my ring, I would advise you to go elsewhere. Mine was an upgrade so we didn''t get raked over the coals so to speak. You can find similiar settings without having to pay Tiffanys outrageous prices.

Usually the sidestones come with the ring (or are supplied by the jewelermaking the ring). Matched pairs are not usually offered loose, and sidestones have to match really closely - the stats on a lab report are not enough to allow a good match.

Designer settings sometimes come with the sidestones, sometimes not and if so the jeweler who sets the ring provides the sides.

The Vatche round & pears setting looks very Tiffany, IMO (LINK)

And here's another kind without the sides (LINK)

... surely there are many more choices out there. These just happened to look particularly nice to me and the Beaudry is quite a bargain.

if you're not purchasing the ring from tiffany's (already set) and you want to put something similar together, you will have to source the sidestones yourself. unless you buy a semi-mount with the pears already set, then you just have to worry about the center stone

i have been looking for much the same, and also talked to kaleigh about her beautiful ring.

the tiffany and Vatche are very similar, just differ in fine detail and treatment of various elements (tiffany is more refined). neither give the option on the pairs (part of the setting which increase as the center goes up).

as for the price. yes.. heavy tiffany markup to watch out for. (40% markup on the cross section i checked in that style)

im sure you can find many settings that have the pears in it. (which would cut down on your buying/shopping time). i am leaning towards a custom route, but a 6 week timeline might be too short for that.

good luck. and be sure to post what you find!
