I''m looking to buy a round cut engagement ring *around* a carat (over or under is not a big deal) that sparkles and is a good value (about $3,500, or little more if necessary). Slightly visible inclusions don''t bother me either. I''ve been lurking around here long enough to know that I am totally overmatched in picking out a stone that looks nice and is a good value! The depth and the table and all that boggle the mind! Help me pick out a stone online and I promise to post pictures of the final setting and give details on the engagement scheduled for one month! Why don''t you search by cut from the Prices menu above and show us a few you are interested in...
 
Ok, I guess you got me... searching for stones can be so much fun.

THIS is a little above your price range but one I think you'd be happy with. How do you feel about J color? I think this stone used to be Pebbles's, she said it's a beautiful stone, she just upgraded for larger.

Nice spread, table, and girdle. Ex P&S, GIA Ex cut grade, probably AGS1 proportions (given the shorter LGs). Price is better than 20% off Rap too.

I know the color and clarity snobs won't back me, but this one jumps off the page in terms of bang for the buck (were still talking GIA here, not EGL).

Ahh, a post with nothing. My incompetence shows through.

I really like that Whiteflash stone. Cut and Carat are much more important to me than color or clarity. I have called whiteflash and left a message. Should I request a photo? Will they do that?

Thanks everyone for taking me up on the bribe! I just can''t make much from a list of 50 diamonds on those e-ring dealers, and am not in a place to find good diamond retailers.

They will give you photos. Most vendors charge $50 to call a stone in from their virtual lists (not already in-house) if you reject it. Of course, if you buy it, they will not charge you.

I''m glad we see eye to eye... Her friends will ask "how BIG is it, is it more than a carat?"

They are not going to "loupe it" and see the Si2 inclusions. They are not going to pull the stone out, and look at the pavillion against a white business card either...

They will see the size (6.73mm) and the sparkle from the Excellent cut. Plus you have the class, confidence, and marketablity of a GIA stone. Whiteflash has a "100%" upgrade policy for GIA and AGS stones (NOT EGL).

You get to be "the man" for only about three and a half grand...

David, that was pretty good detective work! WF did not have that stone listed as "round ideal cut" on the link you gave us. And there was not enough information there to tell, except you looked up the GIA report and got the needed cut information. The only other thing needed is a visual inspection to be sure the stone is eye clean since it is a SI2.

Thank you for your kind words. You are indeed right about a visual inspection and a check for eye clean. An Si2 is not a good clarity for ''drop ship''. As you know there is some ambiguity to "eye clean"; vision and skill of the observer, how many seconds, at what angles, did one look at the cert first, etc... With all that this stone has going for it (including the price) I hope the definition is not too strict, and it passes.

The stone has been requested by some other dealer. Should I try to find out where that is, or just wait until Whiteflash is able to get it?
 
If it''s a good stone, it''ll probably be bought by the other jeweler''s client. If it''s not good, it''ll probably be sent back. Or maybe the stone just doesn''t "sing" to the other client, but if it''s such a good deal, it''ll probably be snatched up.
