Hi, I currently have a choice between two stones, can you help me decide?

#1
1.30ct round
VS2
H
7.07 x 7.08 x 4.27
Costco ideal
$9000 with setting(generic plat)
gia

#2
1.21ct round
VS1
H
6.93 x 6.92 x 4.20
Above H and A with all the bells and whistles proving it is a great shiner.
$7700 with setting (she picked this setting out)
ags

My problems lies in the fact that my girl friend is failling to stand for what she wants and is just determined to get a stone now(nice stone). But from time to time she lowers her expectations(si1). My goal is to get a 7.0 x7.0 x4.28(1.3) VS1 or bigger stone. But this #2 stone is soo close and its Idealo scope picture is damn impressive. Help me decide between these two or convince me to wait it out for a better one later. Months to go.

OMG, are you going to spend 2k for as much diamond diameter as a tenth of a hair width ??? C'mon, those have the same size for all imaginable purposes.

I have no idea what Costco calls "ideal cut" and they do not care to elaborate

The intent to get a great stone is commendable - just make sure whatever makes the cut between one choice and another actually makes a difference that one can see on hand rather than on paper

Do you need to spend 9k ? at least let it be for 1.5 cts ...

well word on the street is that diamonds are slated to increase...i heard anything over 1c would qualify..but who knows.

diamonds have substantially risen in the last year or so.

so personally if you can find something now that fits your bill that you and your gal can be happy with, why not. it may save some $$ over a later purchase.

that said, if diamond #2 is really an H&A with all the bells and whistles (?) then i say go for it. it''s $2k less than the random costco stone (specs?) and it fits your bill pretty closely. as val said, is it really worth an extra $2k more for that tiny big of spread that you may not see. if it was $600 more i may say the first one looks like a contender but it''s $2k!

"Above H and A" do you mean "A cut above" ?

#2 has better clarity, and is $1300 less, difference of only .9 ct and .15 millimeter, AND "she picked this setting out"

Higher clarity, verifiably H+A (and suspected by readers here as an ACA or some other PS vendor's refined cut parameters), and $2000.00 less

versus

slightly larger, but both +/- 5 points of 1.25 ct

This seems a pretty easy decision.

Remember a few things:

"Ideal" is only as meaningful as the standards somebody chooses to apply. What is CostCo use of the term "ideal" based upon?

H+A by itself doesn't mean ideal either.

Now you could tell us how #2 fares in HCA, and show use the ideal scope, and probably some other things. Sounds like we know where that one is going.

#1 is another story. You don't really have the information to make the comparison, do you?

Unless your marching orders were for size over everything, I think there's not much debate to be had here. (And if you just want size, no point in looking at H+A, so that's not it.)

If you are really in doubt, do the bit with sending the H+A stone to an outside appraiser for review (and your eyeballing). Beauty will tell.

Agreed!

We don''t have enough details to pick these two apart, but from the info you''ve provided here, #2 isa no brainer, and if itreally as idealas you say, you can''t go wrong...
