I just picked up my diamond from having it set at the local jewelers. They were technically closed, but I pleaded with them to let me in because it was less than 30 seconds after the closing time. I had left work early just to make it that close (they don''t have very friendly hours). Plus I had spent $900 four hours earlier and they had other customers still inside, so I didn''t feel I was out of line. Plus, I didn''t want to leave it there overnight and have to leave work early again tomorrow.

Anyway, I picked it up, signed the paperwork and left pretty quickly. I got home and found that it has a noticable nick in it. Has this happened to anyone in the past? I thought this was a somewhat reputable national chain and I was hoping to build a good relationship for future polishings, resizings, etc. I think I have to go and point it out, but I really don''t know what to expect.

Well, this has never happened to me but I can say I would not accept a brand new setting with a chip in it. Take it back!

I would definitely take it back too!

I can appreciate your need to get in this evening to pick up the ring in such a rushed amount of time. I think it reinforces a good reminder to always check the ring from top to bottom before leaving the store premises. This way if you see anything unsatisfactory, it can be addressed immediately!!

Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted!

this situation doesn''t sound good cheetahman. best of luck in getting it resolved and let us know how it turns out.

Definitely show it to them tomorrow and talk to them.

And next time, like AChiOAlumna said, be sure to fully inspect the ring before leaving. That way, there is no question of who did what.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Take it back first thing tomorrow. It''s too bad you felt rushed as they were closing. But tell them you noticed it right away once you got home. Good luck and please let us know what they say. Oh and stand firm and don''t let them push you around. Also explain to them that you want to do future business with them and if they stick it to you, give em you know what. Hopefully it won''t come to that.

I think going back to tomorrow to show them it is going to be my plan. I chose platnum, because I thought it was going to be more resistant. If this is the kind of thing that can happen in the store, I''m going to have to look for some kind of super titanium if it''s going to last a week.
