i got my diamond cross apprsiaed and they said 8 round stones are chipped and 4 princess are chipped, is this normal to happen or should i ask vendor for some sort of explanation i dont know what to do he probably will say i did it how can i prove anything they are 8 pointers princes are like 2 pointers

Wow, that is awful, I am sorry. I would talk to the vendor about it; didn't you just get this cross?

If it is new, I''d certainly return it. If it is not new, you''d need to ask the appraiser if this is damage that could have occurred from wear. I would think it would be hard to prove anything if you have had it awhile.

it was custom made piece i dont think returning is option, i asked another person (he wasnt appraisor just goldsmith i think) he said he didnt see chips or he didnt mention anything about it

the first person who appraise did appraisal in lik 10 minutes and i dont even know iof he cleanedit properly before inspecting, is this normal?

i dont see any chips but i dont know they are small stones and there are 44 rounds

How long have you had it?? Seems like a lot of chipped stones for a pendant.... Can you post a pic for us??

i agree. is this the pendant you just got a month ago? if so, i''d question of the chips occured while it was being made and the stones were being set.

is it possible that something else could be viewed as chips in a diamond? because i only noticed him cleaning the piece with cloth before inspecting and not using any machinery for cleaning the piece so maybe some dirt or something could be viewed as a chip?

Also I got appraisal at birks but i think another lab was doing the appraising from them but i thought it was done by birks themseleves

Maybe it is possible some fixative used in mounting the stones or dirt could be mistaken for damage, but a good independant appraiser can tell for sure. If you want to spend a bit more money in investigating this, here is a link which gives you a list of appraisers, you should be able to find one in your area that could help you.

Call the appraiser, meaning the person who signed the report. Their contact information should be on there but if it’s not, ask the store for it. DID they see chipped stones or didn’t they? In a few cases this is a difficult question but a report with 12 damaged stones sounds pretty unambiguous to me.

Then call the store. They shouldn’t be breaking stones while setting them. If they agree that they’re broken, and they agree that this is the way they were when you got the piece rather than new damage that was caused while in your possession then they should fix it.

they graded diamonds are vvs to si, is this including the chips that they found? that would explain why he said a few stones were SI quality because they all seemed vs but i dont know if they include the chips, is chips considered an inclusion or is it like a broken a diamond which then wont be graded?

I would call the appraiser and find out that information for sure.

yeah i will when i see the appraisal papers this friday, it would be pretty weird if they didnt include the chips into the clarity rating that they gave

Also they only took 10-15 minutes to examine a piece with 44 rounds and 16 princess diamonds so it obviously wasnt too detailed, I thought birks did their own appraisals but i think it was someone from some gem labratory

yeah
