Has anyone had a diamond that ended up becoming chipped before? My current situation is that I have a wedding band comprised of fourteen round diamonds (about 4-5 pts each), and a couple of them are chipped. Though it looks like minor chipping or scratching, I am wondering if this is common with diamonds (such as ''wear and tear''). I''ve had my wedding band for about a year; unfortunately, my DH and I weren''t well educated about diamonds and such and ended up getting our engagement ring and wedding bands from a mall jewelry chain (we regret this soooooooo much!!!). The band has a lifetime warranty, but...the likelihood of getting good quality stones is kind of slim. The question is, should I even bother with bringing it back to replace the two stones that are ''chipped''?

Yes they can chip if they become loose in the setting, diamonds rubbing against diamonds is never a good thing. Most jewelers ask you to bring it in every 6 months to check for loose stones.. I would still bring it back to where you bought it, and see what they say. HTHgood>

Hi princesspeach,

My opinion is that you should replace the two stones (if they cost you nothing) since you have the lifetime warranty. You should not hesitate to ask for a replacement because i think it''s part of the premium that you paid.

I have never had chipped diamonds before though... Not that i ever looked or anything...

Good luck!

Cindy

Since you have the lifetime warranty, I''d just bring it back to the mall vendor to find out if they will honour it. They tend to get rather picky (must get the ring checked every 6 months on the dot or the warranty is void). Chipping and scratching does happen although everyone tried to avoid that with regular checkups and care when wearing the diamond, or in some cases, by not wearing it for labourous work.
