2.5 is the BEST age for little girls. My niece, who is visiting from Brisbane, shrieks my name, races up to me, and wraps her sweaty arms around my waist with the most reckless, gorgeous abandon...EVERY time she sees me.

We visited the aquarium yesterday, and went on the circular conveyer belt that runs under a billion-gajillion gallon (whatever size it is) aquarium. She put her sticky fingers all over my face, moving my chin up to see the turtle going over our heads, absolutely babbling with delight. When she got tired at the end of the day, she nuzzled her head down on my shoulder, let her arms flop over my back, and I thought my heart was going to melt out the bottom of my shoes.

It's funny though because she is not so pleased with her uncle, my DH. She persists in giving him the blackest, dirtiest looks all the time. It makes me laugh, the way he is scorned and I can do no wrong.

What do your children do to make you feel like your heart is just going to explode?

What a great question JG.

My nieces are 4 and 6 but they still do things that make me feel this way all the time.
On New Year's Eve when my dh and I were getting ready to leave my youngest niece said wait a minute and she dragged a chair (weighs more than her lol) to me and got up on it so she could hug me goodbye face to face. Awwwww!!!!! Then my older niece who already hugged me goodbye said wait wait and she did the same. LOL. They are so precious. All the time.

My youngest niece also says stuff like she loves me to the moon and back.

My older niece says we are alike because she/we ..."fill in the blank"... And that makes me swoon too because she takes delight (as do I) in that we are similar in many ways.

I love them so much!!!!

Aren't they gorgeous, missy? :appl:

We are blessed to have four in the family - an 8 year old girl, a 6 year old boy, the 2.5 year old girl, and a 1 year old girl. They're all wonderful, loving, intelligent, well behaved kids (seriously, my SIL is the BEST mother in the world), but the 2.5 year old is just at THAT stage. The stage where she is the most adorable thing possible and I want to squeeze her into a million pieces.

I'll check with SIL tomorrow if she minds if I post a photo of them. :))

That would be great Ginger! I would love to see pics of your precious nieces and nephew.

I agree, when my older niece was around that age she was funny about who she was warm to and my dh got the cold stare occasionally lol. That has all changed for the better now and I am sure that will be the case for your dh too!

Genetic scientists need to develop cute little kids, kittens and puppies that never grow up.

I have a thread in FHH about what makes your heart beam being a mom and I love reading it because yes, your heart fills with so much love!!!! Your heart feels like it might pop! if you ever get a chance to read it, it is so sweet what the ladies post. I will enjoy reading here too!!! Aunties are special people!

Here are my happy little guys (they are twins) 1 year and 10 months. They are so happy! Their faces light up when they see me; I beam to see them! Their faces light up when they see Christmas lights and they love to point and say lights. They are so sweet because they love to cuddle their stuffed animals or bring their stuffed animals to me and cuddle with mommy. They love to bring books so I can read them to them and they learn words and smile and say the word. Ugh, being the momma to these boys is the most amazing thing ever! Being an aunt or uncle is pretty incredible too!

Missy, great pics, they are darling! :appl:

Justginger, awww, she loves you lots!

Ahhh yes... My daughter is around the same age as your niece...she just made 3. She makes me laugh and look at her in wonder every day. One day she looked at me and said, "Mommy, I don't like you... " with an angry face...then she smiled and said brightly, "I LOVE you!!!" Awwwww!!!

Billionaires - that's what they would be!

Sha, what a gorgeous story. The faces they make are incredible, so pure and expressive.

Skippy, your boys are so precious! Those big brown eyes (they got them from you?) would be impossible to say no to! Thank you for telling me about your existing thread - I'll read through it for sure.

Skippy, your twin boys are so handsome!
I am going to check out your mom thread. I am sure it will make me cry. In a good way.

My 2.5 year old boy just quit diapers this week and is now in underpants!!!!!!!!! To me that is the best gift ever-NO MORE DIAPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But yes children are wonderful at this age. They don't know yet how scarey the world can be and in their eyes many adults whom they love can do no wrong. They love you and will idolize you no matter what you have or haven't done. I wish they could stay this way a while longer....

Well, that does sound pretty amazing, Ginger, but my son is 3.5 now and I have to say I think he just keeps getting more wonderful! He can express himself so articulately and is so creative and imaginative. He gives the biggest bear hugs and loves to kiss our baby all over. It's so incredibly sweet. And speaking of our baby - he's at the magical 9 month age. He is the jolliest soul. He has these big belly laughs all the time and every single time I look at him he breaks into a huge smile (and often claps!). He smells divine and has the schmudgiest thighs. I adore my boys. I think they're at my very favorite baby age and non-baby age at this moment. Bliss!

oh that is AWESOME; I can't wait until mine are out of diapers Sarah!

Ginger, aw thanks!!! i can't wait to see pics of your niece! I am still cracking up that she gives your DH the stink eye.

Missy, thanks friend!!!

Here's the gorgeous girl, Matilda - she had just informed me when I took this photo: "Sand in my bottom!"

Her hair is beautiful, blonde and curly, but it's all hidden here.

Matilda is precious. Look at that face-so sweet and angelic. Thank you for posting her picture Ginger.

I can tell you that at 8 and 6, mine still say and do the sweetest things. Both kids still light up when I walk into a room and run over to give me hugs and kisses....no matter what mood I'm in, I can't help but be happy when I see them. These days, the most precious moments are when they master something new and are so proud of themselves...like DD (6) learning to ride her bike without training wheels and DS (8) learning to swallow pills "like the big kids do"....they beam with pride when they do these things for the first time.....there's nothing better as a parent.....
