My boyfriend and I are ready to get engaged soon(boy soon) but are not financially ready to buy the 1.25(around) size round stone I want.

I already have a .86 round antique stone. Would it be possible to put that in a setting and then replace it with the 1.25 round later? As far as the setting, I''m thinking either a platinum solitaire or a three-stone with .3''s on each side.

Is .85ct to 1.25ct too big a difference to change out the stones, and would it be harder in a three-stone setting?
Thanks for the advice!

I think I might just keep it in the setting it is in and then when I did the 3stone, find a buddy for the .86 and make a ring to fit all three at once :)

that is a pretty big jump in size. i don''t think it would work, unless it was a peg head that could be switched out.

The only thing that came to my mind was that a jeweller may be able to do an illusion type plate in the setting with the smaller stone and then when you acquire the larger stone, just remove the plate and set the stone in the claws/original setting.
