I saw a discovery channel show the other day on everything you wanted to know about diamonds and of course I''ve already deleted it off my dvr ::sigh:: but in it they mentioned something about that any reputable dealer would be able to produce a chain of *something* (is it delivery?) if asked... basically a document or set of documents that says where its been and where it came from... now are these documents REALLY available to the consumer? Can I just call up a vendor and say, "yeah I''d like to know the stone''s entire history - where was it dug up, where was it sold, where was it cut, etc?" because it seems like some of that is considered "proprietary" in the industry and that whole secretive "proprietary" thing seems like it is in direct conflict with accurate records for say.. kimberly act. As consumers, do we have a *right* to know about our stones?
