Does EGL grade by different set of measurements? Is there difference between EGL USA and EGL International? I see they rate some as IDEAL or Excellent and some of measurements are different than GIA or AGS Ideal or Excellent.

they use similar methods of measuring depth/table % if that's what you mean. However, they differ in means of evaluating a diamond's cut.

At the JCK show in Las Vegas last year it was reported by Rapaport that diamonds with EGL USA reports sold for approximately a 28% discount from diamonds with GIA reports and I believe that EGL Israel was at a discount of about 48% if my memory is correct.

GIA and AGS are recognized by the trade as 1st tier laboratories and all the rest as 2nd and 3rd tier laboratories. It is generally felt in the trade that if a diamond could get a grade equal to that given by the 2nd and 3rd tier laboratories at GIA, then it would already have been sent to GIA.

In fact it is not uncommon for a diamond to be sent to more than one lab and the lowest graded papers are simply "lost".

Junk paper is junk paper and can not be depended on.
