Hi guys!

I'm very new to this and looking to create (or buy if I can find a good price) a pendant. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of options available for colored stones. My budet is around 1.5k total, anyone have recommendations for a center stone? I'm not too picky about the kind of stone (so far I've liked tanzanites but very open to other ones) as long as it's bright/colorful and sparkly. I think I like pear/teardrop shape the most.

For settings do people usually buy an existing one or create one? I like this setting http://www.etsy.com/listing/154900572/spectacular-tanzanite-diamond-pendant except the center stone is a bit too dark and it's out of my budget. Or a simpler one like http://www.tiffany.com/shared/media/products/29137102_D_1.jpg

Thanks so much!

You probably need to give a color direction for people to make suggestions.

Tear drops are not the most sparkly of cuts, BTW.

As size I would not go under 2 carat for a pendant unless you like it very petite.

At a glance, your request sounds simple but when you look at all the options out there, which are all colours of the rainbow and everything in between, you are considering possibly thousands of stones! It will be easier and more fruitful to narrow it down to one specific colour. It seems like whatever stone you choose, the settings you've shown are on the expensive side (full halo or double halo). This alone will eat up almost all of your $1500 budget or cost more than that.

Bright, colourful and sparkly ....... Spinel? It comes in pretty much every colour of the rainbow and has good sparkle.

Or zircon? Also very sparkly. The blue ones can be lovely as can the orangy browns.

Because its a pendant you don't have to worry so much about hardness etc, so you have lots of options.

Do you like yellowy green? If so maybe look at sphene? Although a really good one in your stated size might be too expensive.

I had a look at a few of my favourite websites and there's not a lot out there that are pear shaped and around the 1.5 cts.

How fixed on the pear shape are you?

If you could narrow it down to say your 2 or 3 favourite colours that would help.
