Center stone color D, with G/H sidestones. Will it look ok?

I've 100% picked my stone, and I'd rather have the most plain generic solitaire setting over choosing a new one! That said, the designer of settings I'm waffling between (I know in my last thread I said I'd decided, but nope! :read:) has a Quality 1 and Quality 2 option: Q1 has F/G VS, Q2 has G/H SI1.

I'm not incredibly worried about the clarity of the side stones because they are so small, but I am worried that the color may throw off the look. The look I'm going for is very white and shiny. (My stone is D and the setting will be platinum). Perhaps the color difference is only noticeable at larger sizes? This is my preferred setting, for side stone reference. The measurements at the bottom are wrong. I was told the width of the setting is actually 3.75mm.

Going up in quality is an extra $300 that jumped it pretty decently over budget.

Just wondering if anyone's ring is similar (unintentionally), or if you guys have any photos :)

Lovely setting choice!
I would think that the size of the melee stones are small enough that they will show quite white along side your D stone. HOWEVER - could you ask to see the mount before setting your stone, to be sure they do show up as white as you'd like them to be?

Perhaps the extra $300 for a mind clean colour combination, may be worth it in the overall scheme of things? I realize it puts you over budget, but this will be worn for a long time...

Could it be worth the money to upgrade the colour from the start, rather than worrying later???? (still - ask if you can see the setting first and just plop your stone in to assess how YOUR EYES feel about it!)

Unfortunately this is through Goodoldgold and I live like 1,500 miles from them so I can't go take a look. To make it worse, they don't have this setting in stock so they can't take a picture. They did take a picture of my previous choice setting with a CZ, I'll try to attach it here, with my diamond in tweezers next to it. The sidestones just look gray, like they only reflect the surrounding mount (Makes me second guess having my heart set on pave, but I am NOT starting over!!! LOL)

And about the money, I know what you mean about it being long term, but we've already used that excuse to expand the budget to where it is. Originally it was $5k +/- $1k. Now we've eeked it up to $6k, and with Q2 we're already at $6031. It's just not worth it to me or him. We are also trying to save for a house. :)

hmmmm..... so what are you leaning towards doing then? Going forward with the G/H 's? Did you get their opinion on what they think - white vs less white next to a D stone? I would trust what GOG would recommend.

Yes, that is hard to watch the 'creep' happen. It is hard to rationalize 'just one more thing' but just pointing out, this will be the last thing. Maybe your WB is a simple plain one to start with and it gets upgraded at an anniversary, so you could compromise on that at this point to get the F/G??

Sorry to make it worse! Call or email GOG and get their take on it and let us know what they think!

I'm leaning towards G/H - was just hoping for opinions of either "go for it, no one can tell!" or "oh god that would look terrible!"
If terrible, I would perhaps look at other cheaper settings, but I don't know if finding F/G would be easy even then. And I don't plan on getting a WB, that is why I like the twists so much. I'm a simple girl with simple taste, the twist can symbolize both the e-ring and WB to me without too much chunk hanging off my hand.

I know my boyfriend really wants me to get this shopping over with. He's such a sweetheart and has been so understanding, but I want us to both stop stressing. I feel doubly guilty because my ideal wedding budget is only barely more than this stupid piece of metal and rock. :/

edit: Yes, I plan to talk to Lynda at GOG today. She's been so patient and helpful, I just want to gather all my questions before I call. :)

Great that you are going to call! I think if they feel its going to be fine... then "go for it"! (that's what you wanted to hear? ;)) )
And thanks for adding the photo! I think what you are seeing in the band, really is more metal work than diamond so perhaps the cost of the upgrade to F/G wouldn't really be visibly noticeable with this particular style - in that case, don't fret about the $300.

Re: Center stone color D, with G/H sidestones. Will it look

Just called, she says that quality is actually standard for Tacori and other designer settings, so it won't be noticeable. Especially since melee stones face up whiter.

I think I'm set now.
Diamond
Setting
In platinum, with 6 prongs, 1 of which covering the only crystal, and the prongs head in a low profile so as not to whack it on too many things.

IT HAS BEEN ORDERED! :appl: Now I have to find another way to entertain myself on the train to work. And I promised him I'd stop looking and predicting and go back to normal. This will be my last post until I have a fiance :)
