Hmm... I don't think that the validity of one's scientific research, if independently funded and published in a peer reviewed journal, is related to ones financial/legal/illegal activites. If the two were related, I suspect a lot of scientific findings could be called into question. I'd wager scientists in general are no more ethical and moral than the human population as a whole.

But then I don't have an agenda to prove that vaccines cause autism, like the linked article's author

Mozo, I'm not sure stealing grant money has anything to do with the study or its results. As for where research money comes from, its either govt agencies (CIHR, NSERC etc) or industry - take your pick!
