What do you guys think about cathedral settings? I have been told the sides that come up can block pavilion angles and affect the brilliance of a diamond. I have also been told the sides that come up can snag on things? What do you think the pros and cons are??
If the diamond is well cut, its light performance is unhindered by a full tube bezel. Unless the cathedral sides is super high and blobby, there is no way it will snag on anything. Poorly finished prongs tends to be the culprit for snags together with an extremely high set design. There are low set and high set cathedral settings. Oil and dirt are the main culprits that affect the brilliance of a diamond (if well cut).
