I have been told to be careful when choosing a cathedral setting. I was told the diamond pavilion could be blocked from light, as the metalwork comes up beside the side prongs/pavilion. Consequently, affecting fire and brilliance. Any opinions? Pics?
If your diamond is well cut, there is negligible difference in its light performance. If the diamond has average cut quality, then the added light coming in from the side will help it keep its sparkle better. Even in a cathedral setting, you have the north and south side of the diamond open to light, so I doubt it makes any difference.
