Any recommendations? I have a number of inexpensive stones to set, and don''t want to go the custom route.

Darlin...not asking you to specifically explain...but with all your beauties...why would you consider cast creations? Is there any wisdom or advice you have learned that may be helpful to the rest of us? Inquiring minds want to know.

Or should you just tell me to point to a pretty cast one and move on?

What type of stones...what pieces are you wanting to create?

I prefer die struck if possible over cast for low end mountings depending on design.

find a good benchman and have him order up some settings from stuller.

No wisdom. For certain stones, I just don't want to spend more on setting them than they cost (which may argue for leaving them dormant). I have an emerald-cut Rhodolite (ring?) and two pear-shaped ones (earring dangles?), as well as a round Heliodor (pendant?).

Thanks, kewl guy. What's the difference between cast and die-struck?
Its denser and harder and better quality usually.
The trade off is that only fairly simple designs can be die struck.
On the higher levels and semi-custom to custom I prefer die struck then assembled if possible.
Long term durability is higher due to lack of porosity and being denser.

Ditto...I''d prefer die struck.

brands off the top of my head...

Roseco, Jabel.....

One exception would be the Beverley K settings if you want some fairly inexpensive pave for a fancier ring.

I second the Beverly K... if you like milgrain vintage looks they have some lovely pieces. As for cast versus dye struck... I agree, but then again, these aren't everyday pieces, so as long as I was getting good quality, I would be fine with cast for an inexpensive setting option from a company with a good reputation. Unique Settings is one WF can get in for you (as well as probably every other vendor on here), my original X prong was from them and it was like a Mac truck in terms of durability-- Neil had only nice things to say about it. The only thing is, most inexpensive cast setting will come in calibrated sizes... and your stones may not be calibrated.

Ditto to what Gypsy said. If you are talking about a really inexpensive stone, I wouldn''t pay a huge amount for a setting.

Thanks, folks. These particular stones are calibrated.
