PSers I need your help,

I am planning to drop the big question on a upcoming trip and would like to know if I should have the e-ring on my carry on baggage or check it in? What is the safest route? What would you do? I would hate for them to lose my luggage and also afraid that my gf may see the package if it is in my carry on.

Thanks in advance

CARRY ON!!!!!! You do not want it out of your hands. I have lost luggage before, please oh please keep it in your carry on. Put it in a rolled-up pair of socks or something, just keep it with you at all times!!!

*ahem* I mean, I strongly suggest, based on my personal experience, to find a way to hide it well in your carry-on so you don't have to have the biggest freak-out of your life if the airport loses your bag.

Carry on for sure!! Putting it in a checked bag is asking for it to be stolen.... There have been many threads on this....

carry on...no question...

carry on!! i never check even my most basic jewelry in my luggage, much less an e-ring!! Yes, wrap it in some socks or put the box in a shoe, or put the small box in a larger non jewelry looking box or container. If for some reason they ask to inspect your luggage, just causally tell the guy you have a ring and you want to keep it on the down low. Let him know where is it etc, that way he won''t just pull it out the bag to sprawl all over the table.

Good luck!!

Definitely carry on!

A friend of mine had her jewelry stolen from her checked luggage, so definitely carry on!

Y''know, I''m paranoid enough that I''ll go the question one further ... personally speaking, I''d keep that sucker on my person at all times! Given the season, I''m assuming you''ll be wearing a coat or jacket: if you have a zippable interior pocket, that totally seems like the way to go, as opposed to, a) worrying that the airport will lose your luggage in checked baggage, or, b) worrying about your girlfriend finding it in your bag/that someone else might help themselves if you leave it unattended for a sec.

Keep in mind, though, I''m the kind of paranoid NYer who insists on multiple locks and always carries her purse to the ladies with her ... so YMMV.

CARRY ON and keep it on you!

I was going to speak at a church in some little farm town in the middle of nowhere with one of the kids from our inner-city ministry. Before leaving my grandma told me to carry on (we were only going for the weekend) or at the very least carry on some undies n sock n essentials. The pastor was checking, the girl was checking, they convinced me to check. We ended up washing our undies n socks in the sink, having bad hair days and borrowing farmer clothes

The girl and I had matching sweaters! Matching farmers'' sweaters... oh, the horror... it was unspeakable! So learn from me! CARRY ON!

chain on your neck or tied into a inner part of a coat.

I had the same thought as you on this one, except then I got to thinking that maybe at the security line, they may make you empty your coat pockets to go thru the metal detector...maybe put it in a sunglass case or something so she doesnt see the box. Good luck!!!!!

I would keep it on my person at all times. Checking it in is asking for it to be stolen. Carry on is better but it can still get lost. Can you sew it on into a pocket or something discrete?

Gold and platinum jewelry should cause no problem for the metal detector to simply carry it in your pocket. Put it in a plastic or cloth bag so that you don’t ding it up with the other stuff in the same pocket and keep it clean and choose one that you’re not likely to sit on and you’ll be fine. Sometimes the spring in the box can cause an alarm at security if you have it on your person and you might need to explain. Some of the boxes are a bit big to be carrying this way anyway. If you put the presentation box in your carryon luggage the folks with the xray machine will almost certainly recognize it or, if you’re really worried, put the box in your checked luggage while you keep the ring with you.

Have a great vacation. Congratulations.

I just did this last week. The ring stayed on me the whole time. I wouldn''t have done check-in or carry on.

Ditto!!! On your person!!! Put it in an envelope and keep it in an inside jacket pocket.

Box hidden in checked luggage; actual ring safety-pinned inside a pocket of clothes you are wearing on your body during flight.

Unfortunately, they make you take your jacket off and put it in a bin to go through the x-ray machine. I would put the ring in a fabric pouch first to project it, then in a small envelope for disguise. Before you go through security, go to the bathroom and transfer the envelope from your jacket to your pants (reverse after security since your jacket pockets are probably safer). I have worn my platinum e-ring through security many times w/o ever setting off the metal detector.

There is a Nirvana where every ones treasure ends up...lost luggage, unclaimed, no identifiable luggage...it is in Alabama. UNCLAIMED BAGGAGE They have several stories about really cool things they found in baggage. It is all for sale there. Apparently you are not the only one to consider check in. Maybe you will reconsider after reading this...

At Unclaimed Baggage, we say it’s Christmas every day! One of our workers was carefully checking every corner of a very plain suitcase. Inside a sock was a gorgeous diamond set in platinum. When our experts appraised the solitaire stone, it was an eye-popping 5.8 carats!

CARRY ON! §

carry on, and carry it on you - do not even think about putting it in an overhead compartment!
