I noticed my diamond ring only 2 months old (white gold, rhodium plated) was looking grey/splotchy-almost tarnished like silver. I took it back to the jeweler where I bought it. He polished it and now it looks gorgeous. I was surprised to see how much more brilliant the diamond is too.

I don''t wear my ring when I''m cleaning or working, don''t expose it to chemicals (at least that I''m aware of.) I clean it with ammonia and water and toothbrush.

My questions are: is there any way to maintain that beautiful polished look the jeweler gives the ring? There is a huge difference to me how much more beautiful the setting and diamond look after professinal care.

Sounds like the ring at first recived a plating with "bad Rhodium" sometimes if the plating solution is old or depleted it will be spotty like your describing. Or if it did not get enough time in the plating bath, Or if the temp was off on the solution or not enough time in there ect. A lot of things can go bad when doing Rhodium, but its fine when done right.

In time all rings get an even ware on them, its the nature of the metals, Depending on how much expose to hard use they get will determine how much ware they get. That is dependent on ones lifestyle.
