Can''t decide on a ring

Hi everyone,

I''m about to propose to my girlfriend and am currently looking for an engagement ring. I''ve been reading in this forum a lot - and learned a lot about diamonds in the process - but getting custom-made rings seems not to be as common here in Europe as it is in the US, so after searching for a loooong time, I''ve decided to go with a Tiffany ring.

And now, I''m undecided between two rings. I fell in love with both of them and don''t know which one to take. And although this may be a tough question to ask because you of course don''t know my girlfriend and thus can''t tell which of the two she''d like better, I am looking for suggestions which one to take. Some basic info on my g/f: She''s 26, she''s a teacher, and right now her most precious piece of jewellery is a 100 euro silver bracelet, so she''s not much into diamonds (until now at least

).

The first ring is the classic 6-prong Tiffany setting (0,69cts/G/VS2). The second is the Tiffany channel-set ring (0.67cts/F/VS2). Both look absolutely stunning, and although the channel-set ring is a little more expensive, both are within my budget (~ 7500 euros). I''ve attached two photos for reference, but both rings of course look much more beatiful than the pictures suggest.

Which one do you think is the more beatiful ring? Which is more "timeless"? Which is better suited for a rather young person (26)? Which one goes better with a plain wedding band?

Oh, needless to say, I''m planning a surprise proposal, so I can''t just ask my g/f which one she wants.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Seems vastly over priced to me for the weight of the diamond if both are around 7.5k Euro.

I would prefer the plain bad, not a fan of pave band for everyday wear.

Sorry, should have made that clearer. 7.5k is the most I'm willing to spend, but these are both a notch below that - the plain band is 6.7k, the channel-set is 7.2k. Still overpriced, I know, but I guess that's the premium you pay for a Tiffany (and in Germany no less, so you have to take high taxes etc. into account).

I was just in Tiffany''s last weekend -- and I think the classic Tiffany''s solitaire is the best. It''s absolutely timless and makes a statement. I usually LOVE pave, but I prefer the first ring. And it''s a bonus it''s actually cheaper!

I really like the classic setting of the plain band, too, and I think if I could afford a 1.5cts stone or thereabouts, I''d take that one in a heartbeat.

But with the smaller solitaire diamond, I think the pave band makes the ring look a little more special thanks to the little extra diamonds in the band, that''s why I''m so unsure of which to take.

I vote for the classic solitaire, plain band. And if you want to add some extra bling, go with a wedding band set with diamonds -- a classy, timeless look!

Dittoing SaraP333 and TyTy333 (how funny that you both have that number in your usernames!) - go with the bigger stone and bling it up with an eternity in the future. It''s great because you can dress it down with a plain band if you''re feeling modest, or bling it up with the eternity if you''re not.

Thanks for all your responses, it seems like the classic setting is the heave favourite around here.

But I here you, the classic setting really is timeless, and it leaves a lot of options for the wedding band, so that's definitely a plus.

Maybe I'll go with that one but try to get a slightly bigger stone, I still have a little leeway under my budget after all.
