Canera Vintage Cushions

I love the 2.0 as well. Great job! My vote is for a more squared table also. But I have a question for all you cushion experts out there: is it possible to cut an "antique" cushion without a culet? The kozibe effects are not my cup of tea, but I love the high crowns and broad flashes.

An antique STYLE cushion can. I believe some of the AVC's can. And you can request one that way.

Thanks for the response Gypsy. I read somewhere on here that it is possible to request no culet from GOG, but I have not seen a pic of it as most people who love old cuts love them all the more for the culet.

What does the culet do? Does it allow more chunky flashes or something? I thought it was a bad thing in that it could leak light?

I.LOVE.THE.V2 STONE            WOW!!!!! GORGEOUS!!!!!

The new version is stunning! Well done.

v2 is looking good and can't wait to see v3!

Oh, just noticed that it has no culet. Adding one (please make it round and not rectangular) would add some nice kozibe effect. With those two things it would be very close replica of OMC.

That was my thought too...looks like an OMC and very close to the more wonky OMC's that people love ...although it is NOT wonky, it just reminds me of a lot of the OMC's I've seen on OWD. Very nice stone.

In antique stones they would cut off the pointed tip of the stone to prevent it from chipping and it creates an extra facet in the stone. Light does leak through the culet ...some people like them and some don't...they are not bad but just a part of a diamond. You may cut off the point of most diamonds and create that effect if you like it. But it is very common in antique cut stones. I'm sure there are threads if you do a search that you can read feedback from experts on culets.

I love the square/rectangular culets. LMAO. We all have so many preferences.

I want a square table and a square culet. And then there are folks rooting for a round table and a round culet (which would make them look more round, which is why I want the opposite).

I was browsing GOG videos and came across this clip of a chunky (not AVC) cushion with no culet (on the left) for those who are interested in what it looks like http://vimeo.com/17449088

ETA: on closer inspection, the left one seems to have a VERY THIN rectangular culet that it's almost invisible.

Here is an interesting article on how the culet that produces the Kozibe effect and because of the cut of the stone produces more fire.

"The reflections of the culet occur when crown and
pavilion facets are both steep. The same proportions
produce fire....Pairs of culet reflections on crown facets form when
light bounces off the center of the pavilion into the crown facets. The
reflection of the culet appears dark because light does not reflect back
from it but passes through."
