I need help, PLEASE!!!

My fiancee picked out a beautiful 1.85 radiant fancy yellow diamond VS2. The setting will be a three stone with .50 carats on either side of the yellow diamond and 4 .10 pointers the shank. It is going to be gorgeous! My only concern is both he and the jeweler want to set the yellow diamond in plat and not 18 kt. yellow gold. She showed us a ring with the yellow diamond set in 18 kt. gold and I thought it was ok. He did not like it at all! Does anyone have their yellow diamond set in plat? I have only seen pictures set in 18 kt. Need reassurance I did the right thing!

I think it would probably be fine in platinum, but personally think YG is better for the basket/prongs because it helps define the color of the stone.

Why do they object to using YG?? Just curious...

I actually had the prongs on an antique ring of mine changed to yellow gold, and they did slightly improve the look/color of the light yellow/brown diamond...

Either way, your ring sounds fabulous. Be sure to post pictures when it''s done!!!

this is fascinating... I hadn''t even noticed that the basket and prongs of the Dimend Scaasi ring were in yellow gold! It makes sense, and now that I look at it, it probably would look a little "off" if it was all in platinum...

Aussie: The first link you posted also is of a ring with YG prongs/basket.

The second link is all platinum, and looks fine...and the stone in that ring is fancy yellow like epm''s....

I like the look of a canary in platinum--something about the contrast that appeals to me. My little canaries are set in 18K yellow, though, and that looks nice as well. Generally I like the prongs to be yellow and the ring platinum. Here are some examples:

The reason why he wants it all in plat is he likes the uniformity of it all. My jeweler does as well and i have worked with her for 6yrs. I am glad that i have seen pics w/all plat I think it will look very claasic when it is finished. I will get finished product in about 4-5 wks. Again thanks for opinions and pics. Now what kinda of wedding band?

I orginally set my fancy yellow diamond in platinum and the color did not stand out as much as I like. I had to reset it in 18K gold basket with pave halo and shank in platinum. The yellow color looks a lot more intense. I am attaching the before and after photo.
