Calling all Canadians! I went to Canada for the first time last fall - and absolutely LOVED it - and while at the airport store, I saw a brand I'd never heard of: Lise Watier. I bought their perfume, Neiges. Now they have a sale on their website, and I want to buy a bunch of stuff. I feel sophisticated and international having Canadian cosmetics, lol! I'm charmed by the fact I'd never heard of them.

What are they like, as a brand? Good reputation? Quality products? I see they're pretty big in Canada. Amazing how I'd never heard of them - and I do like my beauty products! Are they an old-fashioned brand? Is that why people in the US don't seem to have heard of them? (My friend is plugged into every beauty blogger and brand and podcast out there, and she hadn't heard of them.)

Tell me anything you know about this company!

Thanks!

@Jambalaya, I don't know much, but they've been around for quite a while. I believe they started in Montreal as my sister knew of them there long before the rest of Canada did. They are a high end brand, almost elegant in their product line? Gorgeous subtle colors, especially lipsticks and wonderfully packaged. It's popular with the 30+ as the pricing is higher. I prefer Lise Watier over Lancome .

Thanks, Begonia!

Its definitely not new. I feel like Shoppers Drug mart has carried them for a looongg time. I actually didnt know it was canadian!

Shoppers and London Drugs both.

What's Shoppers Drug Mart and London Drugs? Does it mean the Watier brand is mid to low market? I'd gotten the impression it was a high-end brand, but perhaps I'm wrong.

I have an interest in the beauty industry as I worked for Avon in the late Eighties. I think the industry is interesting, especially as a Sephora opened on my way home from work, and I saw the absolute explosion in new brands these days. And their marketing techniques are amazing. I just spent $28 online at SAephora and I got seven free samples - and they weren't small, they were 20 mls, 50 mls, 80 mls, etc . It tempts you to spend. And I don't know how older brands can compete these days. The marketplace is bursting with thrusting new millennial-type "clean" brands, like MILK and Huda, and so many more.

I'm curious to know where this brand slots in with the older brands. i.e. is it like Helena Rubenstein? Or like Vichy? If it's at these mart places, it sounds more like Maybelline?

It is sold in the high end area of a shoppers drug mart. I think they also have them at the Bay beauty counters. So consider your department store beauty counters (clinique, etc), its similar to them as far as the "level" goes. Definitely higher end than maybelline!

Hm, interesting...I've never bought perfumes from Lise Watier but I'm going to check to see if they have Vent du Sud, Bora Bora at duty free next time that I fly to Canada.

HI:

Good quality products. Mid range pricing. I use their lipstick.

cheers--Sharon

Thanks, everyone!

voce - they had quite a lot of Watier perfumes at the duty-free at Montreal airport a few months ago.

I went to Canada twice last year - never been before - and I LOVED it. I can't wait to go back and discover more.

I don't even like makeup and now I'm interested.

It seems like a nice brand to me, Eliza, and the prices seem very good in relation to the quality. Their Neiges perfume is lovely, and I tested their perfume Watier at the airport - also lovely and I have ordered some. Their makeup colors are really pretty. I'm very fair and many colors overwhelm me, but they have a lot of pale, delicate colors.

The fragrance gift sets are really good deals, and you get 15% off if you sign up for their newsletter. The 1.7oz bottle of Watier perfume is $84, but in a set with a body lotion and body wash, it's $67, and then with 15% off, I ended up paying about $56 for the $84 perfume plus the other two bits.

The Neiges set is even better value - $56 for a value of $94, and then 15% off.

Thanks, everyone!

I usually fly to/from Toronto Pearson, but don't always stop by Duty-free. I've bought quite a lot of stuff from Clinique there, but will be on the lookout for Lise Watier next time.

I don't like a lot of popular perfumes (Chance, N19 by Chanel, for instance). If I recall correctly, Neiges was cited on Fragantica to have lots of musk, and I won't know if I'll like it (and hence buy it) unless I have a sniff myself. My mom (whom I generally see every weekend) is particularly sensitive to musk and hates those scents.

Then that explains why I like Neiges - I'm a huge musk-lover! The muskier the better, lol!
