Canadian Cushions / Are they out there?

Hello everyone,

I am new to my "Cushion" search and need your help!
After extensive research I have made a decision to buy a Canadian mined diamond only (I don''t want to get into all the reasons why).

I have talked to GOG, Whiteflash and Mark Turnowski and they all have very nice cushions.

Question:

Can I find similar (vey nice) Cushion cut diamonds from Canada? If so, who should I be talking to?

Sidenote: Once I find the perfect "canadian" stone I plan to have Leon Mege complete the setting.

I''m in Canada and I''ve never come across any Cushion cuts at all, but that''s not to say there aren''t any out there, I guess it''s knowing where to look. I buy all my stones from the States, better selection/value for money.

Some places carry the Princess of Hearts, which is basically a cushion shaped RB. Also, tiffs and Birks have cushions. But Birks may be the only place selling Canadian mined cushions.

Cushions are tricky beasts and finding well cut ones is a needle in a haystack. I think if buying Canadian is really important to you then stick with an RB because it will assure that you are getting the best cut.

Also, I have read that most Canadian diamond are sent to india to be cut, or to other countries. So if being truly Canadian is important to you then you might need to hunt one down that is also cut here. In my personaly opinion, if it is sent to India to be cut then the issues of international trade and also quality of life issues surrounding the diamond trade are all equally present in such so-called Canadian diamonds as in diamond mined in Africa in accordance with the Kimberly accord. Just thought I''d mention that in case it matters.

I wasn''t able to find a cushion that met my needs in Canada. I went with Mark and Jon for my two cushions.

What did GOG say? I''ve just started looking for a Canadian cushion. I have been working with a local "wholesaler", but I haven''t been pleased with the number of stones or quality that they can show me. I hope I haven''t set my sights on a diamond that doesn''t exist.
