I have narrowed it down to two diamonds. One diamond receives a HCA score of 2.4 and the other 0.8.

I was wondering if its possible to see a difference in real life. The only draw back is that I dont have the ASET images just the specifications of the diamond.

Diamond 1

Depth = 60.7
Table = 60
Crown Angle = 34.5
Pavillion Angle = 41

Symmetry = VG
Polish = Excellent
GIA Cut Grade = Excellent

(I was told by the sales person that a table of 60% is within spec of the perfect diamond according to new GIA guidelines) Is this true?

Diamond 2

Depth = 61.6
Table = 56
Crown Angle =35
Pavillion Angle = 40.6

Symmetry = EX
Polish = EX
GIA cut grade = EX

Am I just splitting hairs, or is there a noticeable difference between the two diamonds?

Probably yes, depending on the size and optical symm. For these 2, the most glaring difference will be the table size difference. A 56% table will have different pattern to that of a 60% table.

yes, 60% table is still Ex under GIA cut guidelines.

Visible difference between the table sizes, concerning the performance as far as can be told without images ( just estimation) there could be a subtle difference.

A 60% table size can still earn GIA Excellent cut grade.

Love the new icon Lorelei;-)

There would be subtle differences that may or may not be visible depending on how sensitive your eyes are.

Stonecold:

What is meant by optical symmetry? Do you mean the rating that GIA has certified the diamonds symmetry at? Also I should add further specifics:

Diamond 1:

Carat : 1.20
Color: H
Cut : SI1 - Completly eyeclean
Depth = 60.7
Table = 60
Crown Angle = 34.5
Pavillion Angle = 41
Symmetry = VG
Polish = Excellent
GIA Cut Grade = Excellent

Diamond 2

Carat : 1.30
Color: H
Cut : VS2

Depth = 61.6
Table = 56
Crown Angle =35
Pavillion Angle = 40.6
Symmetry = EX
Polish = EX
GIA cut grade = EX

Now I am happy with the size of the 1.20, I just want to ensure I am purchasing a beautiful diamond with no regrets later on. It should be noted that there is roughly a 2k difference between diamonds. Is it worth it?

What are the physical dimensions?

Optical symm is how well the facets align with each other. GIA symm does not take that into account.

Optical symmetry is down to cut precision, the grading of the internal reflections of a diamond and any hearts and arrows pattern it shows as a result. This is not the same as cut performance, the sparkling beauty of a diamond comes from having effective proportions, this is what drives the light return mainly. Both of your diamonds have potential, do you have any images such as Idealscope for either?

Thanks Joshua, I use this one every Holiday - hehe!!
