Hi all,

Ive been discussing this diamond below with a vendor and it looks really good. I don't know how to read or interpret ASET images but they sent me these. I know cushions aren't as brilliant as rounds but is this a good cut?

thank you!=)2

Pass for me. White and grey are leakage. There is a lot of that under the table at 2, 4, 6 and 8. In person, that would likely look like grey/mush. Also, in my opinion, a lot of green in the crown tends to make the diamond look smaller than if you see a lot of red.

Its not a faceting pattern that I've seen under the table...there is a lot of leakage (grayish-greenish white area under the table). I think it would be a pass
for me too. Do you have a link to the original stone? Would love to see the GIA/regular pic of the stone. Have you seen this stone in person?

Just the one I have here and a screenshot I took of a video of it. I have not seen this in person.

For me, it would be a no. Just too much leakage under the table. I'm not fond of the "+" sign under the table either. sad :((

Here are a few stones that look like they have nice light return under the table (just for example...ignore color/clarity/size). You want to see clear, crisp
well-defined facets under the table.

Are you working with a jeweler that is bringing stones in? Maybe we can help you pick out a few stones on-line then you can ask your jeweler
if they can bring them in for you to view.

Pass for me as well :( I recently spent a lot of time looking into cushion cuts because I was helping my SIL find one and there are some really awesome cushions out there (most are not however) this one unfortunately also doesn't seem to be one of them. What is your budget and min size/color requirements?

Thank you for your help! We've decided on a cushion brilliant and if I could get a good white (h-I color) that would be ideal. I've dealt with one local Jeweler who seems to be knowledgeable about the cut and had two to show me. But I don't have ASET images and they both look nice to my eye. I just figured my friends here on PS would help me see whether I can get something as good if not better for the price they've offered me. :twirl:

We are happy to help (we kinda love searching). Can you post your budget and wants for color and size?

"Budget is about $7500 usd (the Canadian exchange rate is to our disadvantage unfortunately so will need to settle for smaller and/or not custom made. Oh and add our sales taxes of about 15% to that total amount). I'm Ok with warmer diamonds for the cushions but again, never seen an AVC in person, so I will definitely need some help stone hunting! :). Im hovering at around 7mm size for a cushion, so I'm guessing a 1.5 ct weight.

I'm sensitive to colour and H colour on an emerald looked too warm to me. Truthfully, actual warm diamonds are tough to come by here. I've never seen warmer than an I before
." Previously posted still accurate?

No we increased our budget to about $10,000 usd. We realized we weren't getting anywhere with our last budget and the antiques were difficult to find and once I saw one in person I wasn't as enamoured as I thought I would be.

Thank you again!

Is a hearts and arrows cushion look the same as a cushion brilliant?

H&A cushion mimics the optics of a modern round.

Here are a few worthwhile cushion brilliants. You'll have to ponder clarity and the placement and type of inclusion to get to your size goal without dropping below an I.

I'd love to hear thoughts on these (or others) for the OP.

Happy to help. Do put them on hold asap while you consider and get an ASET image requested.=)2

So the local jeweler called me this week and said he had a great cushion for me to look at. Sure enough, it was gorgeous, conflict-free, and we got out the credit card and reserved it! It's a 1.5 carat H color VS1 cushion brilliant and it took my breath away! I didn't take any photos of it but I will certainly be back to show you all the final product :)

Did we break the bank? Certainly. Budget went out the window. But fiancé said not to compromise. I am happy because I got to see it with my own eyes and trust the jeweller's taste and eye. There was no pressure for the sale that I got with quite a few of the online vendors. Plus I get to enjoy local service which means I don't need to ship my ring out for things like maintenance and repairs, a very reasonable price for a finished ring, and I am hoping a nice long-lasting relationship with a jeweller I can trust for future purchases.

SO EXCITED!! :geek2::geek2:

Thank you ALL for your help in training my eye, for the advice and for the shopping help!

second the pics!
