Got the place, got the time, all that's left is the ring.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site and inexperienced in buying diamond rings, and I wanted to know if I could solicit some help from you all.

I'm looking to buy a diamond engagement ring for my girlfriend in which I've tried to do extensive research to find the best ring for her. This research opened a Pandora's box to a plethora of information concerning the Hearts And Arrows, Hearts On Fire, The Leo, Tiffany's, branded v. unbranded, GIA, AGS, etc. etc. and now I have a migraine and I'm more confused now than when I first started

, I wanted to know can you select the ring? Here's the criteria:

1 carat round solitaire
gold band in a platinum setting
willing to spend up to $6,000

Thanks experts, I'm eager to see what rings you choose

Warning warning!!!!
Anyone who gives you a single option will be accused of favouring an individual (fav) vendor and will be cast out and stoned to death.

Do some WORK and come back with possible selections

Ok, I don''t think I will get stone to death by saying use the cut quality search tool on the top of this page. Most of the results found should have a good pic and data of the diamond you are looking at and the vendor selling it. If you like the rock, go to the vendor sire, they should have a list of settings and you can call them up for opinions too. Once you have a rough guide then get back to us if you still need more advices... :P

Good luck. :)

One carat Leo''s are standard price $6499 regardless of their color and clarity. So if you get a good one, its better of course. I just got a 1 carat Leo, G Color, SI2, 1 carat and was able to get it for $5270, plus $300 for a platinum head instead of white gold. That being said, some people like Leo''s, some don''t. They are "overpriced", as are any brand name diamond. It all depends what is important to you.

I'll take a hit for a chick getting a nice ring.

This setting, though it doesn't automatically come with a Plat head, you can see about switching.

With one of these stones, if you're not after a super, duper, louper. Need to check if eyeclean, can't go by the pics, ask. (about 2% off with PS discount)

or this one

Their branded diamonds. About 5% off with PS discount. Again, ask if eyeclean.

They are closed on the weekend, and based in Houston, so I'm not sure how things will be on Monday....

OW!

You can also try bluenile.com

They have a nice search engine, under Build Your Own Ring. You can plug in your criteria (your size and your price) and play around and see what you can get. Their sales staff is helpful and their diamonds are beautiful. They have a 30 day return policy so you can have the ring (or diamond) independently appraised.

They are very low stress and you can get something of great quality without an overload of information and decisions.

You may or may not care, but you should know that they don''t do upgrades. Also, they do not do custom work.

I found it was really easy for my husband to buy my anniversary ring there this June and the ring is GORGEOUS, I saw nothing comparable in the high end stores around here for 2x the price.

Black Jade

P.S. You could also build your own ring there, leave it in the shopping bag and check if you can get something comparable cheaper from another pricescope vendor.

I also bought from BN. Only bad thing about them is the lack of information on the stone, not ASET or even a photograph of the stone. Makes it difficult to try aiming for the SI range stone as you never know if they are really eye-clean. Even the sales-rep don''t have that information on hand. So, the only sure way is to go the VS and higher clarity stones.

Personally, I prefer not to go to Blue Nile for an Ering due to the lack of info they provide,
You will be safe with GOG or WF, as already suggested ..

...OW! those stones hurt!!!!! Garry, please only throw diamonds next time

Well, BN was the online store my friend recommended me and before I found this site. So brought my e-ring from there. Probably not going to buy from there again for the wedding ring.

Thanks Stone cold, and Ira.

Please don''t go to Blue nile, use one of the bigger names off this board, you will be happy you did in the end. I think Ellen gave you a lot of great options.

The whiteflash people are wonderful to work with. I bought my diamond from another online vendor who didn''t supply enough information and didn''t realize soon enough after that it wasn''t all it was cracked up to be. Now whiteflash is recutting it and I REALLY wish I would have just bought from them in the first place!
