i am looking at a 1.22ct H&A RB. It lists at $6400 and then $6100 with wire discount. On the rap report, an I SI1 H&A cut lists the H&A cut at $4578 average per carat which would put the average price for this size stone at $5585.

Do you think there is any wiggle room on the price? Would sellers even entertain this?

I don''t think most of these vendors negotiate on price. And I found the H&A stones no more than average cut diamonds in local jewelry stores, so I felt the price was fair. I''m not sure how meaningful the Rap prices are.

It never hurts to ask but I wouldn’t hold my breath in anticipation. The ones that give big discounts are the ones that have high prices to start with. Average pricing on an average stone is hardly what you’re looking for so Rap doesn’t really tell you much that'll be helpful. What you want is excellent pricing on a spectacular stone, which is an entirely different question and there really isn’t a conversion chart.

RE: Negotiation

Generally "everything" is negotiable. The question as to whether this is wise, depends on what each side "gives" to finalize the transaction and how much the result of the an offer is to both sides.

In order to reduce a price, you may have to "give" something up, like trade-up, buy back, or other "perks". They may accept a lower price, if you have change the terms to a non-refundable, " I can't change my mind, after getting it" type scenario.

The terms of payment can sometimes, affect the price ( cash, vs wire transfer, vs credit card, etc).

Search the forum for this article which I wrote some time ago. -https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/rockdocs-secrets-to-negotiating-price.26055/ Hopefully you'll find that a help in your quest.
