Hi Everyone,

I don't know much about jewelry, but I know some jewelers could do just about anything. Can an Excel Diamond Six Prong solitaire that was originally made for a 1.02 be sized down to set a .77 carat diamond. The setting is platinum and it would be purchased second hand so I am assuming I can't send it back to Excel Diamonds for the to work with. (or Can I?) Is it possible to actually modify the setting down or would this just be a headache?

Thanks!

If it's a peg head solitaire setting and if they couldn't use the head that is on there, the peg heads are made to be easy to replace with a different head. I don't know if this applies with your setting, or if it has an integrated head.

Good point...but not sure of what a peg head is...although it seems like a replaceable/removable piece. Are there any Pricescopers out there that can inform me of whether the SuperbCert or Excel Tiffany Six Prong solitaire is a peg head? If it were to be remade maybe it would not be as close a replica as what Excel makes...??

Here's a peg head. I'd check with your local jeweler to be certain. If they say it's not possible and you don't mind shipping your ring to one of our vendors that can do it, and you don't mind paying the extra cost...it may be worth it:

Not a peg head:

It also depends on the measurement of the diamond. What is the mm size of the 1 ct stone and the 0.77 ct stone? There is some leeway of about 0.5 mm so it might fit without having to redo the head.

You do need to post a picture of the setting. If it is their Tiffany replica that has the head made to fit the stone, I can tell you just to give you an idea that I just paid $250 to have the head replaced on my Vatche version of the 6 prong Tiffany replica. If you are willing to pay, almost anything can be done. But it makes a difference which setting it is. And I wouldn't even consider it unless you were having Excel do the work. Contact them and ask, and don't do it at all if they won't do it.
