2 asschers with a pear in a ring or would that just be an ugly nightmare? (I am a pear person so that's not the question)

Why do I ask? I have 2 matched Asschers, F color, VVS2, .68 ctw in stud earrings and would love to make them into side stones for my eventual pear-shaped diamond upgrade ring (c. 1.25-1.40 ct) since they're a little bit small for my earlobes as studs, buuuut that just might not work. I appreciate fancies with fancies but I'm not sure these 2 shapes would work together.

Impossible?

I think you *can* but the question is maybe whether you *should*? I think it could look cool, depending on the setting. Like, if the asschers are proportionate to the pear, they could kind of look like the classic pear-with-baguettes setting, with a twist. Or, if you did them 'kite set' in bezels with milgrain or something, it could make it look kind of antique. What would be the measurements of the stones? Maybe someone with photoshopping skills could make a few mock-ups for you.

thanks RubyBeth, I was kind of picturing kite-set Asschers, milgrain - I love the antique/classic look. My proposed pear would be about 9.5ish x 6.3ish and the Asschers, gosh, I have no idea. They are small, as Asschers tend to be (which is why I'm thinking they'd make AWESOME side stones, but are getting to be kind of smallish for stud earrings to my eye lately). I guess whatever measurements a .34 ct Asscher might be on either side of the pear. If someone has Photoshop skills and wants to play, please do. :appl:

I can't give up on a pear-shaped center stone for my upgrade ring, but if this couldn't/shouldn't be done (pears/asschers), I'd leave the asscher studs as earrings or just use them in a different project someday.

Like an asscher with pears for a 3 stone? My first reaction was YUCK lol. The two different cutting styles don't appeal to me really.

See how the kite-set asschers look with a pear. I don't think I'd like them set square, but they might be interesting kite set.

As for different cutting styles, so are baguettes and any sort of brilliant cut, but those are combined all the time.

I also just don't think they go together at all.

I keep envisioning Lil Misfit's ring, but with a pear center and asscher sides, and I think it could look nice if done right. IF you were going to pull it off- this is how I would imagine it... an antique setting type- miligrain bezling- kite set pears...

Well, first of all, I admire your ability to think outside of the box! I am always thinking up unique ideas for my jewelry obsession so I get it.
You might think this is nuts...but what about an adaptation of Rouffian's ring? You could bezel the asschers on the sides, set normally, and use your pear upgrade for the keystone. The proportions wouldn't be exactly the same, of course, but I think the asschers would "make sense" more in a setting like that. And the pear would be a fun twist, I think. I just love that ring so much. haha
ETA: If I were a photoshop whiz, I would totally do a mock up for you! Alas, I can't even do my own mock ups very well. lol

My opinion is no opinion...if you think it will work and you like it, go for it!!! It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks :wink2: I know I am gonna do something within the next year or so that most pricescopers wouldnt do and wouldnt like...but its want I want to do :loopy:

Have you drawn out or viewed a few options of what you think you'd like to have set? It sounds very unique and interesting! I guess it could be done - anything can be done! - it's just not a common combination.

Are you good with photoshop? Could you mock up a few concept drawings? I'd be really interested to see what you come up with - sounds kinda cool - very "outside the box" as Boogins says!

It's hard to imagine the shapes together but I did find this ring that gives you an idea how it could look. In this case the sides are princess cut. This is from the 2012 AGTA Spectrum awards.

I do think a pear works better with kite set side stones as opposed to straight set.

Saw this ring and the kite set princess diamonds made me think of this thread.

good find

I love pears and own an asscher. If you put pear sides on a center asscher I think it could work. But the other way around ... not so much. Sorry.

I was hoping I'd like it better with a visual, but nope. I think brilliants with step cuts is a hard thing to pull off, I've never really liked step cuts with brilliant cuts in 3 stones. Works better when the side stones are quite small.

After seeing the two examples (nice finds!) I think it could work - it's not really my style, but I actually think it's a pretty look and if you love it then go for it. The uniqueness of it appeals to me.

Oddly enough, I kinda like the idea with colored stones...I'm not sure about all diamonds. I think to each their own, you have a wide variety of opinions in this thread.

I tend to agree with this- I prefer brilliant stones set is a band with a step cut as thesis attraction.

But I think that if YOU like it- you can pull it off.

Thank you, ALL of you, for your very helpful replies. I've been thinking about this for a few days and I realized that I just can't visualize the ring turning out well with my Asschers next to a pear. I did have a good idea though...

I'm going to use my .68 ctw Asscher diamond studs as side stones for my 1.35 carat emerald-cut Emerald!!! This is going to make a fabulous ring!

As for the pear idea, well, that can be a completely different jewelry project. :naughty:

Thank you so much for your feedback. What on earth did I do before PS? :D
