Can you have a 3-stone ring altered to fit (much) larger stones?

We purchased a Hearts on Fire Identity 3-stone engagement ring for my wife, along with a 1 ctw (As i recall) 5-stone HoF band to go with it. The engagement ring has a .5 ct center stone and two .25 ct side stones. We both love the setting. The more time I spend searching and reading on here, the more I want her to have larger stones in the ring, lol.

I was wondering if it was possible to have the setting altered so that we could move the .5 ct stone to one side, and get a matching .5 ct stone for the other side and a 1 ct stone for the center? The setting is white gold. Here is a picture of it, it''s a half-bezel setting for each stone:

I wouldn''t get the stones from HoF this time (I''m now more savvy on my diamonds), but I''m sure I could get some ideal/superideals that will match them.

Or is resizing the setting a waste of time and money, and I should jusy consider something else entirely?

My wife doesn''t have a problem with changing the engagement ring, but she wants to keep the wedding band unchanged.

Oh yeah, I''m thinking longer-term here, probably for our 5th anniversary, so another 3+ years away.

Thanks,

Mike

I think it will be much more cost effective to get an entirely new setting. The basket looks to be integrated to the shank, plus there''s smaller melees on the shank too.
