Can Vendors recommend 3rd party shipping insurers for abroad

Hello,

Please could vendors or anyone else for that matter recommend a third party insurer to insure a precious stone being shipped from the USA to the UK. The value is around $5000.

I believe FedEx, DHL and UPS have a much lower insurance limit, so I have read that people use third party insurers, but have discovered that U Pic, to name but one such 3rd party insurer, exclude precious stones.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions whatsoever. The person sending the stone to me is a smaller scale Vendor and at the moment we are at a loss as to how to safely ship the stone.

I am aware of the shippers Brinks and Malca Amit but believe they are rather costly so would much prefer to take out 3rd party insurance and then ship via a more regular method such as FedEx.

I had this problem when I was trying to ship a ring which I had sold privately from the UK to the US. The only carrier I discovered who would do it was DHL. They have a service called DHL-It-Now and they do cover valuable jewellery to be shipped abroad fully insured. It might be worth contacting them to see if they provide the reciprocal service from the US to the UK.

Many thanks diamond hoarder, will look into that and it is extremely useful to know of a UK-Abroad service. I will indeed call DHL tomorrow to see if they do the reverse.

If anyone else knows of US shipping insurers please do post your recommendations.

I rather like ParcelPro.com. They cater strictly to the jewelry and related trades, but if your shipper is a vendor of this sort of thing, they may be worth a call to see if they'll work with him.
