Hi,

Apparently I wasn't schooled enough in this aspect and purchased a diamond with a GIA excellent cut and excellent polish/symmetry , but the angles were a 4.3 on the HCA scale. I was told this does not reflect light well

I'm looking for serious sparkle and shimmer. Will these angles deliver that? (assume 3x excellent on all aspects - cut polish symmetry)

2.0ct round:
55% table
61.5% depth
34.5 angle crown
40.6 angle pavilion

Thanks so much

Those angles will get a good score. Let me see what you maybe did wrong.

Yeah, it gets a .7 and excellent scores. Did you maybe enter the crown and pavilion angles with % in the box instead of "angle"? Otherwise you either put numbers in the wrong place or had a typo!

HI Diamondseeker. No, I entered those correctly.

It was my purchase that got the 4.3 that someone said would be bad.
The specs on those were 60% Table, 61.6% depth, 35 angle crown, 41.2 angle pavilion

The stone I'm now looking at is a VS1, I color, 2.0ct with the .7 specs you calculated (triple ex GIA) Is it safe to assume this will shimmer like the sun?

Thanks

Oh!!!! Okay!

I would want an idealscope image on that stone to be sure. But you definitely need to return the other stone. Then start over. New thread. We will help you!

heh, yeah I am contacting Ritani on Monday to begin the return process.

Do you mind checking these 2 GIA certs for me? (attached) This receives a 1.0 on the HCA scale and is 2.13ct around the same price $18,000. What do you think? The only downgrade is now it's a VS2 instead of the VS1's I was looking at. Doesn't appear to be many inclusions

The other attachment is around the same price and is the 0.7 HCA score 2.0ct VS1

VS2 is usually pretty safe, so that is a good idea to expand to those. I am going to give you some numbers to help you narrow this down better.

Table: 54-58

Depth: 60-62.3

Crown angle: 34-35

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

If you find more stones to show us, please post the link to the GIA report or the link to the stone on the webpage because it takes more time to open these pdf files.

The 2.13 I VS2 is pretty good. It would be better if that crown angle was up to 34. 34 with a 41 pav angle works really well. Are you looking at stones that have the pictures and videos? I wouldn't look at any that don't. Their Reserve diamonds are going to have the most information. I am glad you checked here while you could still return that other stone!

The 2.0 I VS1 should stay on the potential list, but I want to see the stone photo if it is there.

There are no pictures on this website for any stone it appears, Adiamor.com, but both are a part of their highest reserve diamonds "Affinity collection" which has the hearts and arrows shape.

No tax, 30 day return, overnight shipping

I recommend skipping any site that does not supply images at all. They should have images and idealscope or similar for their "reserve" diamonds to prove they are worthy of their highest category.

If you are looking beyond Ritani, B2C Jewels has images for some of their stones.

They charge tax in NY, waste of $1500

What I don't understand is, if the GIA cert rates it Excellent, and the angles are good to go, why would one need the pictures? Shouldn't it be universal since GIA said it's up to snuff? These gradings are not as useful as one is led to believe Im finding

GIA excellent is a very broad category. It really is more like Excellent to Very Good or even Good. GIA also rounds their numbers, and they are not looking at every possible facet, either. So you can have leakage in a diamond that has good numbers.

Let me see if I can find you a quick example.

Okay, these are all GIA Excellent stones, but granted, they do not all have the numerical parameters that I posted. It is just showing you how much GIA EX can vary.

and then these...

If I had to buy a diamond blind, it would absolutely be within the measurements I gave you to have the best chance of being a nice stone. But I wouldn't spend $18k on anything I couldn't see. It just makes no sense to me.

But regardless, you are saying the diamond needs to be outside of NY which really limits the options. I looked at Whiteflash but did not see anything in the 2 ct I VS range.

I see what you're saying. Appreciate you taking the time to discuss this all with me

The angles on the 2 certs I provided seem like a decent shot at getting a great stone. Worst case is I can always return it within 30 days according to their policy with no charge

Yes, they both should be a LOT better than the first stone you ordered! I am not going to look at the reports again, but maybe look at the diameters and order the larger one.
