Can someone explain what this means?

Is it better to be on the thin side or towards the thick? What else impacts this factor?

Thank you

It refers to the diamond girdle. This is the outermost edge of the diamond. You might want to read this tutorial: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/girdle.asp

I think it is better for the girdle to be in the slightly thin to slightly thick range. Very thin is not good because this makes the diamond edges more delicate and it can chip when set. Very thick is not good because the girdle is hiding unnecessary weight in the girdle which makes the diamond cost more since diamonds are sold by carat weight.

I am by no means an expert, so maybe some diamond pros can step in here.
