I have been lurking for about 3 months now since I got my engagement ring (yup alittle late for help)my diamond is a round brillant cut with the following specs.

.87 I color SI2
Depth 58.2 %
Table 61 %
Crown 32.5
Pav. 41

VG/VG/VG on Cut, polish and symmetry It also has this on GIA report **** Cut grade affected by brillianteering

I ran my diamond through the HCA and it comes up a 1.6, to me with all i have read on this forum my diamond specs suck...

The diamond sparkles like crazy, so i just dont get it !

Can someone shed alittle incite into my diamond ??

Thanks

What makes you think it sucks? The angles are unconventional but complimentary. I bet it is a blazing white stone, perhaps less fire than we might see in some other angle combinations.

What is the lower halves number? I am betting it is 80?

Do you have the table and depth reversed in what you listed though?

ETA: Can you post the exact carat weight and GIA report number? I'd like to look it up.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a HCA of 1.6. Anything under 2 is absolutely worth considering. The HCA is not the whole story however. If the diamonds looks beautiful to you, then it is a keeper.

@Dreamer, The numbers for the depth & table are correct! I will post my GIA # when I get home(currently at work)I wrote all the spec's down but didnt include the report # :-(

Oh dont get me wrong, I love the diamond and it sure can shoot fire! But with the reading I have been doing it seems like my #'s are all wrong! The one flaw i can see is a feather(small) on the side of the table, i can only see it with a loupe or when the sun hits it just right, but its eyeclean in any other lighting as the cut must hide it well ! I will try to attach 2 pics i differant lighting scenarios.

Thanks for all the help

It looks fantastic! In terms of the specs "sucking" (which I don't necessarily agree with, btw) it's just another example that stats are not the whole story!

My feeling is that most "regulars" on this forum are working to help consumers that are buying by the numbers or otherwise sight unseen choose characteristics that are most likely to result in a great stone.

But in fact GIA graded stones (and even GIA VGs) can be wonderful, and I definitely think yours is.

@Meezermom....Thank you

@ChrisES ...Thank You...I think your correct on what your saying, when we bought the diamond I knew nothing about depth, table etc. Once i found this forum and started reading and seen the ideal specs I totally thought my diamond was cut totally wrong! And then when I ran the #'s through HCA it was like how could that be...I guess it does show you that #'s aint everything ! :D
